My baby is 15m today and only says mama, even then not really in context. I spoke to a HV yesterday and they said not to worry at all until at least 18m as he shows lots of communication signs, just not through words. She encouraged simplifying language as much as possible as well as lots of reading, songs etc (though we've done that since birth anyway)
My 14 month old says very little too. Just 'duck' and 'shoes' and sometimes mama and dada. I'm not worried though. My first was a slow speaker too, and now she's a chatty 3 year old. As long as they're making noises and trying to say some words, that's a good sign! A friend who's 3 year old has only just started speaking - he didn't babble or say anything at all as a baby.
That’s about normal! You must just have baby friends that are more advanced. My daughter is on about 20 words and I think that’s quite advanced, most her age and even towards 16-17 months are only saying about 10 or so.
Speaking as a nanny of 15 years prior to having my feb 2024 baby. They all do things at their own pace. If by 2 they’re barely speaking then I’d worry, they’re 14/15 months; it’s sooo early. A lot of HV don’t worry til nearer 2.5/3 to be honest xx
