Night routine

My 16 week old usually wants his nighttime milk between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. By 7:30, he’s already getting cranky and wants to have his milk in the bedroom. If I feed him downstairs he gets fussy and is only happy in the bedroom at that time. After his feed, I change him into his nightwear. Some nights, he wants to be held until he falls asleep, and on other nights, he’ll drift off on his own by around 9:00 p.m. He often opens his eyes slightly to check if I’m still in the room. So I can't really leave the room once he sleeps. It might sound like the ideal bedtime routine, but it comes with its own challenges. My husband leaves for work at 7:00 a.m. and returns home around 7:30 p.m., which means we no longer get to have dinner together. Since he needs to wake up early, he aims to be in bed by 10:00 p.m., so asking him to wait until after 9:00 p.m. to spend time together doesn’t really work either. Ive tried getting the little one to nap around 7pm to delay his bedtime but he gets upset and will end up waking multiple times in the night. How are you all managing time with your partners while juggling your baby’s routine? I maybe wishing for too much. Sleep regression may be round the corner.

Our nighttime routine starts from about 7 where we have bath time, getting into pjs, bottle at 8pm and bed at 8:30. For us our baby boys last nap is roughly 5-6 so we get to have dinner together then (I know this isn’t possible for you) and eat early but sometimes it doesn’t always happen that way and we end up spending time whispering in bed to catch up. 😂 Days like this we try and get into bed at 9pm so we have an hour to chat and if baby needs us we are there. He is 17 weeks. It’s difficult but we try and make it work so we still get some us time. Hopefully it will get easier but for now maybe chat in bed whilst baby can still see you if he does like to check 🩵 xx
