Newborn ultrasound for hip dysplasia?

My little one was born breech, so her pediatrician has ordered an ultrasound to check for hip dysplasia. Has anyone’s newborn had one? FTM wondering what to expect since it’s so tough to see her in pain or upset.

If you're asking what to expect with hip dysplasia itself, I'm no help. But if you are asking about what to expect for the ultrasound, I can help a bit. My baby girl had an ultrasound on her spine at a little under a week old. It was pretty easy. The gel wasn't cold, and she was already sleeping, so it went quick for the most part. The hardest part was when she had to be very still, but we gave her a pacifier, and that helped her settle back down. She also had some other tests she had to be still for. For those, they gave her a few drops of sugar water to settle her down. That may be an option if baby gets wiggly or upset during the ultrasound.

Our first kiddo 4.5 years ago was breech. The ultrasound is non-invasive and the tech was really good working with kids. They had warmed gel and I could be there the whole time to comfort her as needed. Didn't take too long. Our daughter didn't have hip dysplasia so I can't speak to how the process from that point would go.

Thanks @Sydnee! She is definitely wiggly so that’s a good note to prepare for!

Thank you @Emily! Glad to hear I can be there!
