@Lianne to have milk saved up before the procedure because I’ll be under anesthesia. I think they’re worried about it passing through my milk and going to baby, it’s a level 2 drug
Yes! My boy was about.. 6 or something months? I asked the gastro on the day about it as well as the people that I met along the way when I was getting processed through and they all either said it was fine or didn’t even mention it. The Dr actually said at the very worst he might be a little sleepy lol. I would have breastfed quite soon after, I don’t recall exactly when, but he was still young and boob obsessed so I know it wouldn’t have been hours and hours after. From memory I think he said if I’m worried I can dump a bit prior but there really isn’t a need and everything was fine :)
@Steph ok great! That makes me feel better! Were you feeling ok during the prep without eating anything? I’m so nervous I’ll be drained taking care of the kids without any protein and my milk supply will tank from not eating for almost two days
I’m glad :) oh man I’ll be honest it was shit but I’m vegan so I had suuuuch limited options and love food so I was struggling haha but I got through it! I don’t know about your prep but mine was a gradual reduction over I think 3 or 4 days. Day before was the only liquids only day. I think my milk dipped a little bit but I’ve always had a decent supply so it wasn’t anything remarkable. I’d say if you can get another set of hands just to be around if you feel you need to chill out that would be great, and/or look at what others had during their prep. I did a lot of that just to try and get ideas. And in the end it’s worth it to resolve whatever you needed the colonoscopy for in the first place :)
@Steph I’m vegetarian! That’s the main reason I’m worried lol what did you drink the day before? My prep is only the day before and day of Also, I won’t have any help so I’m just hoping it’ll be fine 🤞🏼
Oh how funny! You’ll probably be better off since you can eat eggs etc so you’ve got that going for you haha day before I was only allowed clear liquids. So you can have literal stock etc and certain Powerade type drinks but obviously nothing red and then I had picoprep and glyco prep!
Same I breastfed about an hour after my procedure and my baby was fine and his normal self
Do you know the name of the medication your doc will be using for the prep?
I recently had a colonoscopy and was able to not have the anaesthesia and have the procedure using gas and air (I'm based in the UK). This meant I didn't have to worry about breastfeeding afterwards. I had the option of additional pain relief being administered during the procedure if I needed it (but this would apparently have meant I couldn't BF for 24/48 hours depending on who I asked - I had three people at the clinic tell me different things!). My little boy didn't seem to be affected by the prep and I don't think it significantly affected my milk supply. :-)
Following because I'm getting a colonoscopy next week. They told me the same but I also have trouble feeling comfortable with it too.
If anyone wants to give me a pep talk, I’ll gladly listen! I’m drinking the prep tonight and procedure tomorrow, I’m very nervous and dreading it
How did you go?! I missed the message I thought you said your prep was tonight otherwise I would have word bombed you a pep talk 🥲
@Steph I would rather go through childbirth again than this prep lol I’m living in hell. And my 8 month old for some reason only slept about 6 hours on and off so I got 2 hours of sleep total ✨✨ ready for my medicated nap during the procedure lol
I dont know why they'd say you'd need to pump bottles!!
