I know hospitals offer birth reflections but I am currently 12 weeks pregnant with my 2nd after giving birth to my 1st 2 years ago. My birth was textbook fine but post partum was really traumatic.
Being pregnant again is very triggering for me and I can’t stop thinking about the post partum part of it. Would midwives offer a birth reflection this late or how could they offer support?

Learn more about our guidelines. You've got five years to ask for a debrief, so you still can 😊
i would recommend getting a referral to the maternity mh team as this is the exact kind of thing that they often deal with x
They keep your birth notes for 25 years in England (possibly UK wide) for legal reasons. You have plenty of time!
I was told I had a year for my de-brief but it may vary per trust? Your midwives can definitely refer you for MH support and given you’re pregnant you should get priority. Sending big love! Xx
I had a very traumatic birth, and am struggling with this pregnancy. But I have a consultant which specifies in MH and will be providing extra support / talk through everything. I was never debriefed and was left (during COVID) so a tough time.
I would imagine they can however the appointment is for the birth only. I wanted to discuss things that had happened whilst I was on the ward in hospital after the birth and was told this wasn't what the appointment is for which was very frustrating. So this may not meet your needs. I would speak to the midwife though about your concerns and anxieties as they could help to refer/ signpost to appropriate support or maybe provide some answers to things that are worrying you.
