Ive got over 40 and used it for a back of the thigh piece because it is a very painful area. When applied correctly, it can be a very useful tool. Who cares what others think? I couldnât give a flying fuck if they think I cheated đ€·đ»ââïžđ I firmed my chest being tattooed but was much younger. The older you get, the more painful the tattooing process is. Use that cream and have no shame
Just be mindful and tell your tattoo artist beforehand as it can alter the texture of your skin which can make it harder for them to do lines. My sister is a tattoo artist and says it makes the skin more spongy
Use the cream!! No shame in it at all. Get TKTX gold the stuff is amazing
Make sure you clear it with the artist doing your tattoo. Some will not tattoo over numbing cream.
You get a tattoo for the sole purpose of getting that thing tattooed on your body, there's no such thing as "cheating" đ yeah some people like getting them because they're a form of therapy and whatnot but I've still never understood the issue with numbing cream. Like Poppie says as long as your artist is informed, do what you want đ you're not better or cooler or harder for getting a large piece without cream, nor does it make you sensitive or a wimp to use it even on a little one đ€Šđ»ââïžđ
As someone who is covered in ink including my face, the stigma around numbing cream is pathetic. Everyone has different pain tolerance, just because someone canât handle pain as much, doesnât mean they shouldnât get a tattoo just because theyâll need numbing cream. I know tattoo artists who use the cream on themselves. You donât get a tattoo because itâs painful you get a tattoo because you want to have a picture/writing on you lol. I used it on my stomach piece and it did nothing for the pain & I have a high pain tolerance. But it can also really affect the tattoo and healing process
Work smarter, not harder. I have a lot of tattoos, do tattoos. Personally I've never used it because it's a more recent thing but I have a few tattoos that I would have GLADLY used it. Some spots are pure, hell raiser level pain, that even being an adrenaline junky doesn't justify the agony.
It doesnât work for everyone, and it can have adverse effects in some cases, so itâs never been worth the money for me to try it, but I donât care if other people do?
I talked to my tattoo artist and the numbing cream can mess up a tattoo if the artist isn't used to over hydrated skin, be careful who you choose but I'd just tough it out lol
Use it. Only used it on my back but Iâm literally never ever not using it now. It worked crazy well
For the record my back tattoo is huge. A total of 10 hours.
I wouldn't put it on in advance before arrival I would take it with you or ask them before you go if it is something they can provide. It's better to be open with the tattooist than risking a bad reaction or them turning you away on the day. I had my leg done many years ago now and the outline I didn't have any numbing and it was brutal. I went to a different artist to get the shading and they offered to put numbing cream on half way through to take the edge off when they started on my knee. You've also got adrenaline at the start which would help numb the pain naturally đ
I jokingly tease my fiancĂ© for using it but donât actually care if someone does it doesnât. He does say itâs not worth the 0-100 pain you get when it wears off before the end of the tattoo and feel everything all at once
Always check with your artist before using it and be careful where youâre purchasing the numbing cream from. There has been several cases recently (in the U.K.) of clients using numbing cream they bought online and getting severe skin reactions/chemical burns and requiring skin grafts. Using numbing cream also changes the texture of your skin whilst being tattooed so could affect the quality of your tattoo. However, I have used numbing cream once on a session on my neck and wonât lie, there was no way I would have been able to sit as long without it. But do your research, talk to your artist and try and tough it out without.

@Lauren my partner used a dodgy one once and didnât regain sensation for months!!
Isn't this like saying getting an epidural is a cheat?
My husband put some on and still felt everything. So IF it works I wouldn't say it is cheating. Some have a higher pain tolerance than others, some don't mind the pain; so you just do what will help you get through it better
