Hi guys I was hoping someone could give us some advice, my husband has gum disease and he breathes through his mouth too. So he drools a lot when he sleeps which is fine and I don’t mind it, but his drool just smells so bad I don’t know what to do. I have to change his pillowcase often because I have a very strong sense of smell too and I just can’t handle it. I’m very open about this with him so he doesn’t get offended but was hoping someone could give us some advice or if anyone experiences the same.
He has very good hygiene, never smells, brushes twice a day, doesn’t really eat bad foods, and is hydrated.

I had an ex that had to have his teeth fully removed due to a genetic disease of some sort that was rotting his teeth. I mean his smoking made it happen faster, but yeah. Nothing he was doing to cause it.
Definitely suggest a dentist visit
Isn’t this something that should be looked at and treated by a dentist? I would be checking that for sure.
The mouth breathing is the thing to try and rectify. Mouth breathing isn't natural, and is a sign of something else going on and is a massive cause of smelly breath! Does he mouth breathe during the day, your just at night? Has he always done this?
@Charlotte yes he does during the day too, he had issues with his nose so he can’t really breathe through it. He is due an operation to fix this issue with his nose as it is always blocked too but the NHS just take the piss
Dental nurse here. He should see a hygienist and get the gum disease sorted. Needs to be flossing daily, brushing his gums as well as teeth twice daily for two mins, mouthwash is ok but it’s more the manual removal of plaque that’s important.
Re mouth breathing at night, this could caused by a number of things, is he over weight?
I’d suggest mouth taping in the first instance and see how he gets on xx
@Zara thanks so much for the advice! And he isn’t overweight I don’t think he is overweight, he weighs 86kg and is 5ft10
I think he should try mouth taping and see if that helps :)
Does he have any gastric problems? I'd be considering potential silent reflux also if his saliva is smelly
Therabreath icy mint. They make mouthwash , floss, toothpaste. It’s a game changer. That in addition to everything above
