Hey mummas, I was just wondering what can we use while pregnant for back pain and muscle aches etc I was using deep heat and tiger balm but then read online it’s not supposed to be used while pregnant and the nurse practitioner said I could use ibuprofen gel while pregnant as it’s not enough to get into the blood stream but then I read you can’t use that either so I’m at a loss with what I can use for my body aches and pains 😩??

Learn more about our guidelines. My gp said you can't use deep heat or Ibuprofen gel, but apparently the cold version is ok, I think it's called deep freeze, but probs best to check first. I had physio last week and they told me normal heat packs are ok as well as ice packs and it helps to alternate they said. X
I used tiger balm - thought that was ok 😬 you can use a hot water bottle but not so hot it makes the skin red. So a gentle warmth which does help me a bit. Also nightly stretches, there are loads of great yoga/pilates videos on YouTube for pregnancy back pain x
@Rachel please be careful with hot water bottles, I work on a burns unit and it's one of the most common things we see x
@Georgia I’m under physio now so luckily haven’t been using them, but my back went really badly at 8 weeks and I couldn’t move a muscle, so the dr suggested just a warm bottle. The water wouldn’t have burnt me, it was just warm to give some relief, like a warm bath!
