My EBF son is just over 2 months old and has consistently gained 0.5-0.7 oz per day. He has his own growth curve. My lactation consultant and pediatrician are concerned that he is not gaining at least 1 oz per day. And honestly, I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the stress they have put on me and these numbers, and I'm fed up with going to these appointments just to have them stress me out. Because at the end of the day, my baby is content and happy and has plenty of wet diapers (10-14 in 24 hours).
He is meeting/exceeding all milestones (he's already rolling from his tummy to his back, too!).
Their other concern is that he does not poop everyday. He poops every other day or every few days and when he does, he usually has 2 or more poops on that day.
If you have/had a slow gainer, please tell me your experience and help me feel better.š„²š

Learn more about our guidelines.My baby was born in the 50% for weight and by four months was in the 14% where he has stayed for the last year. As long as he seems happy, comfortable, and is having enough wet and dirty diapers. Itās completely fine. During all of this my pediatrician and lactation consultant were never concerned. They said it takes babies a few months to find their curve and normalize. Your baby will let you know if they are unhappy or uncomfortable and need adjusting.
Iām sorry they are stressing you out. Youāre doing a great job trusting your intuition. Take a breather and know that itās okay and itāll take time for your son to find his weight curve.
@Corinne thank you š„¹
My baby was in 1% and growth restricted so this was a major stressor for us. At the end of the day we supplemented with high calorie baby formula and I combo fed for three months. Once I went back to work I couldnāt manage the stress and pumping so we switched to full high calorie formula. Heās now 60th percentile.
As a mom of a 2nd percentile baby...we obsess so much over their food intake even when they're totally fine.
Percentiles and curves are based off of formula fed babies in the states who gain weight much faster in the initial months.
Not sure why they're concerned about poops...breastfed babies are notorious for not pooping regularly. My gal used to poop once a week (every friday) and then recently when I added in more formula because of lack of supply...she started pooping more often.
Your baby will be totally fine...sounds like you might need to find a different doctor that doesn't cause you so much anxiety!!! Also all of the lactation consultants are terrifying and put the fear of God in you. Its awful. You're doing great ā¤ļø
@Molly (She/her) thank you!!!!š šš«¶
Mine was 50th percentile until about 4 months and heās been dropping ever since (6 months atm). he has plenty of wet/dirty diapers but paired with frequent night wakings to nurse has me finally listening to his pedi about making sure im eating enough fatty foods. we go back in 6 weeks for another weigh in. So i would say just make sure youāre eating enough!!
as far as the BMs go BF babies can go up to a week without one and itās completely normal!!! as long as he isnāt in pain itās totally fine. If your pedi is making a big deal out of that Iād find another one tbh because thatās BF baby 101 lol.
Good luck mama and trust your gut. As my dad would say āto hell with them those growth charts donāt mean a damn thing. If that babyās happy then heās healthyā
@Kaytlin thank you for saying all this!!!!š«¶
