Hi all, feel a fraud posting in here as I haven’t been diagnosed with HG, however I have been nauseous every single day of my pregnancy and vomit 1-2 times per day. I have managed to keep food/liquids down and never needed a hospital admission. Tried every single antisickness tip and medication that a doctor will let me have, all to no avail!
Anyway I am 38 weeks now, having a c section next week due to other medical reasons. Just wondering if you guys found that the nausea went away as soon as you had baby?? Or did it take time? Don’t want to get too excited if I’ll still have it for a while 🤣

Learn more about our guidelines.Severe and consistent nausea comes under the HG umbrella. Nausea does go away for most people right after they deliver the placenta
I too thought I would feel like this for life. Couldn’t remember life before HG as 9 months is a long time. But you will be better
@Laura thank you for this 🩷 there is light at the end of the tunnel!!
I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. Well done for getting through it, you're nearly there! I understand that the diagnostic/treatment guidelines for HG have changed so that diagnosis is based more on how the patient feels and functions as opposed to ketone measures etc. The fact that you have struggled with nausea throughout (despite not being admitted to hospital) suggests HG to me.
Like you, I was nauseas throughout and I'm glad to say it went away as soon as my daughter was born. The baked potato i ate on the postnatal ward felt like the best meal of my life! I hope that's the case for you too. All the best for your c-section x
@Charlotte - can't see 👋 thanks so much I wasn’t expecting to have my symptoms validated so much. It has been hard and I had to stop work at 22 weeks due to it and have only gained 6lb during the whole pregnancy (despite having a massive 9lb at 38 weeks baby according to growth scans 🤣). I think most doctors still see HG as ketones/needing IV fluids but I’ve never got that bad and know people definitely suffer worse than I have! So glad to hear yours stopped so quickly too, cannot wait to eat when/what I want again! And of course meet my chunky baby 🤣
I got furious at midwives/consultants who said “no ketones or only 2+ ketones so you’re fine”. It got to the point (despite shoving the guidelines in their faces) that I was 37 weeks pregnant and hadn’t drank in 5 days. I could barely speak or stand and they still refused fluid and anti sickness injections. So I rang PALS up and said I’m going to kill myself and the hospital have been negligent. In hindsight it was a bit dramatic but it got me what I needed - fluids, injections, and an earlier induction date. No one understands just how much HG ruins your life. I literally cannot explain it to anyone who hasn’t been through it, there are no words that cover it. I know of cancer survivors who have said HG was worse than their cancer treatment. The nausea is absolutely the worst symptom of HG so don’t put yourself down. I challenge anyone to have the constant feeling of being 5 seconds away from vomiting, 24/7, for 9 months. We are all strong women and you will come out of this.. cont
With a sense of achievement that can’t be described. All the best for your birth 💜
@Laura well done for advocating for yourself and your baby! You’re so right no understands, and makes out like it’s “just morning sickness” and we should put up with it, but there are days where you feel like you are dying! Thank you for your comments 🩷
HG is caused by a hormone called GDF15 that is found in the placenta. So as soon as that comes out you should find immediate relief!
@Katie 🙏🙏
