How would you make formula feeds at the airport/ plane? We are travelling soon and looking for the easiest way. I assume we need to take quite few sterilised bottles as nowhere we can sterilise at the airport too! I do my bottles old school way waiting for kettle to cool etc so never done any other methods like hotshot etc! š

I'm also going soon by airplane on holidays. I think I will take few measured portions of formula powder in containers. I'll take hot boiled water in a flask (guess anywhere they'll refill it, f.ex Pret, Costa I'll pay them). And cold water. For that I'll use mineral water that I'll buy there. But I guess as an emergency it'll be ok. So mix 50/50. And it will be ready to drink. You can also buy ready feed at the airport however my baby doesn't like them. Also worth mentioning they contain laxatives so baby might get loose poo.
I'm only wandering if we can bring a big can of formula. We're going for 2 weeks so will need 2 cans just to be sure.
All of those tips are learnt from other families as I'm a ftm and gonna travel for the first time with my baby
@Emma aptamil
@Veronica I might take a flask as well! My baby always has problem to poo and ready made formulas donāt even work on her so might take few as well as itās easier. Im sure you can bring as much formula as you need there is no liquid restriction on baby formula either
Ok great I'll pack them then. I don't wanna buy abroad as I'm scared of changing it
Would you consider getting the ready-to-feed bottles for your journey? Itās so worth it for me when travelling! Iād take a full dayās empty sterilised bottles and and equal number of ready made Aptamil so that theyāre ready and good to go on demand! Thereās already enough to think about when travelling with kids so itās just one less thing to worry about then āŗļø
@Veronica I also heard people order formula for click and collect from boots after the security bit so saves you space in the luggage
@Emma yeah I feel like this might be the easiest option. I know there is so much to think about to pack for her that we might need itās crazy!
Following.
Can you actually just take a tin of formula through security?
If your baby is happy to drink their milk cold, you can pre make your bottles at home and take them through security. They just use a different scanning machine to test the contents.
If not, you can take the powder through in containers and get some hot water after security as a coffee shop / restaurant etc.
I use the Rapid Cool bottles / flasks when I travel too but recently have just been making the bottles at home and taking them with me
In regards to ordering formula to collect airside (after security) itās best to have your collection date a few days before you travel incase the delivery is late. I have read on other forums people have collected their parcel from boots and items have been missing so air on the side of caution possibly with that option x
@Asia yeah you can take any baby food there is no legal limit
@Megan thank you I will bare that in mind regarding collection! Iāve got rapid cool and would usually make the whole milk in there, I assume you use hotshot so donāt have to sterilise? Im always worried the water from coffee shop machines is way too hot for the powder I know they say above 70 degrees but not too hot as can damage the nutrients? Not sure how true that is. She doesnāt like cold milk so even with ready made bottles I need to warm up haha Iāve got a little flask for it though so might take that
Yes I do use the hotshot method! I havenāt had any issues with the water heat from coffee shops. Iām on mat leave from an airline and used to find the water from the airport a lot cooler in temp than outside of the airport (at a coffee shop) .. not sure if this is because youāre possibly more at risk of spilling it at the airport/ on the plane but my little boy hasnāt had any issues with it / no icky tummies either
