Hi ladies, so I’ve been in labour now since contractions started 0400 yesterday morning, had a sweep at 1400 I was 2-3cm. Contractions v painful after this so got to hospital at 2300 last night to be told I’m 4cm…
Contractions are so painful when they come now but they ramp up then die off. She’s apparently not in the best position but seems to be jiffling around.
Has anyone had this? My first labour was 28 hours and that was bad enough! I’m getting to the point where I’m exhausted on gas and air only.
Thinking my pool birth dream is over which is fine but wondering if anyone would just take an epidural at this point?
Midwife is lovely but really not offering much in the way of advice. Husband asleep!
I’ve tried being up and active, it gets things going and then dies off again. Don’t want to go home cuz it’s so painful when they do come

Learn more about our guidelines.I feel for you so so so much. I went into hospital last week Wednesday, was induced at 11am. Waters went at 3am, gave birth via c section 17:45pm the next day. Was the worst pain of my entire life and I was so exhausted. Traumatised my partner. Take all the pain relief you can girl I’m serious, I went for epidural after 10 hours on gas and air and it didn’t do much for me but offered some relief. Don’t brave it out if you don’t have to, you will be exhausted when baby is finally out and you need as much energy as possible. Also the longer the pain goes on the more stressed your body becomes which could cause complications (not saying it 100% will but it might and I just don’t see the point in allowing that to happen) you have dreams of a specific birth and I know you’re upset about it but you and that baby are more important!! I see your pain, you’re doing amazing girl. I’m proud of you, happy healthy baby is coming very soon. Well done mama!!!🤍
Totally agree with @Robyn!
I had that with my first. 72h in total. It was bloody exhausting! Do whatever you need to do. If you feel you need an epidural, take an epidural. Yes, it will limit your mobility but it might actually give you a better chance seeing it all through!
This time, I had a precipitous labour and kind of wish I ditched my unmedicated birth idea before I was in so much pain I was howling like a banshee. Maybe if I'd taken an epidural earlier (I never even had time to properly use it after it went in) I could have relaxed a little I wouldn't have ended up with another CS...
Anyhow, hang in there and do whatever feels right for you! You're a hero even if you have to tweak the plans :) xx
Thank you ladies! I’m freaking myself out thinking if I get the epidural will I end up in c section but the way this is going I’ll exhaust myself and end up there anyway.
I just miss my first born so much really gutted it’s turning out this way but what can you do these babies are so unpredictable!
Lovely to hear from two ladies who have just gotten out the other side! Hope you’re doing okay x
Do what you feel is best. It painful and exhausting. I only had use gas and air for 1hour 30 and didn’t feel great and was so thirsty afterwards. There is another drug you can take before epidural forgotten what it’s called. They put anti sickness in there to for gas and air. Can say if worked or not as all happened way to quick. You are doing absolutely amazing, whatever you choose no right or wrong you got this x
@N L no point, that’s the only thing I can say! Is no point! I was so so so scared of a c section, I said it my whole pregnancy that it was my worst fear. I’ve never had major surgery or anything so didn’t know what to expect. But when they said “his heart rate is sky rocketing, his head is really swollen, he’s stuck and you’ve gone septic” I knew I had no choice. I’m not saying that will happen to you not at all, but if the time comes I think you’ll go into mama mode and just want to save yourself and your baby.
Epidural doesn’t mean c section, but it does mean your body can relax which may relax baby and coax baby girl to get into a better position, right now she’s probably pretty tense because you’re in pain.
I know you’re gutted but you’re doing so well girl, and in the end it really won’t matter when you hold her. I had a massive plan in place and I swear everything went out the window after that first contraction 😂😂😂
Wishing you the best, message away if you want! Xx
you’re doing so good, i was begging for an epidural at 2cm😂 i had an epidural with my first and just needed forceps to get her out. maybe ask for something a bit less than the epidural but stronger than gas and air just so you can have a rest, you need to have energy to push baby out
Thank you so much for your words ladies! Had some oramorph, everything has come to a halt so back home and going to sleep! They think the sweep tricked me into thinking it was go time 🫠
@N L omg no this happened to me on his due date!! His due date was 05/05/25 and I was in AGONY, went up to the hospital and everything calmed down. 10 days later I was induced and it was real Labour and I felt like I was gonna die 😂😂😂😂😂 I wish I got the epidural earlier honestly. I’m glad you’re okay girl, get LOADS of rest. They tell you to move around cause it induces Labour but I’m telling you the more sleep I got the quicker he came out xx
@Robyn oh god that’s awful bless you!
I had no idea you could basically be in established labour and contract for 24 hours and then it just stop.
I plan to sleep all day whilst our toddler is away.
What the fucking fuck. None of this is fun is it 🙈
@N L AHAHAHA that’s what I said constantly, I kept going “what the fucking fuck” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@N L have not experienced this but hope your baby makes an appearance soon and that you get the birth you wish xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@Amy ah thank you! She made her appearance this morning after a failed epidural and had to push her no pain relief! Been a crazy few days so glad I never have to go through that again ha x
@N L congratulations! ❤️❤️
And haha, I know the feeling of relief of never having to do it again! X
@Paulina thank you! Hope you’re getting on well.
Haha it’s a lovely feeling isn’t it 🤣 never shall I set foot in this Labour ward again ha x
@N L omg CONGRATS GIRL!!! Xx
@Robyn thank you!! X
Congratulations!!!!! How are you feeling?
@Amy not too bad actually, just remembering how long these night feeds take initially!😴 how are you getting on?! X
I know right! I forgot about it too and then it hits you. We are good thank you trying to divide the attention between the 3 year old and the newborn!
