Hi all. Help needed. My girl is 2 years and 2 months. Always used dummy for nap and bedtime. At the moment she is having FULL on meltdowns and wants it all day everyday. Doesn’t have it much at all when at nursery, as soon as she’s home wants it immediately. I have tried all distraction techniques. I am not keen on her having this all day. She seems obsessed with it. Can anybody help. Is it time to wean her off it? But how can I do this when she is screaming the house down for it. In some ways I know she is only young and so what is she soothes with it at this age, but on the other hand I feel this is a problem that is slowly getting out of control.
Help please

Learn more about our guidelines.Commenting as I am in the same boat as you. I have a 2 & 3 year old both hooked on the dummy. I’ve tried so many times but the meltdowns are just crazy I end up giving it as if I am taking it off one I have to take it off the other so I am having double meltdowns. Tried replacing it with other comforts and they still love it especially my 3 year old but I just think it’s time they both got rid of it
My girl started to ask for it more and then I just bit the bullet and went cold turkey. She was the same and only had it to sleep.
We've had a few meltdowns but only advice I can give is be strong and try and distract them (and yourself!) They soon get over it. We've done nearly 3 weeks now and she's not asked for it for nearly a week so I think we're coming out the end of it!
We went cold turkey just before Christmas, we told him it broke. He was obsessed with it before but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. After a few days it was forgotten about.
My daughter went through this and we decided to get rid of it completely. She was crying in the day for it but wouldn’t actually keep it in at night. Go for it, just be prepared for a few days of crying for it. We told her she was a big girl now, and other babies needed her dummies. She asked for it quite a lot for 2 days maybe and that was it. After a week she got a little toy as a well done.
