And then before you know it youāll almost miss those daysā¦almost lolš itās all dependent upon babyās weight and rate of growth, once baby is back to to birth weight and gaining the appropriate amount of weight each week (google this/ask your pediatrician) you can start to lengthen time between feeds. Comfort feeds can be hard to break, but I found that giving baby a bottle before bed can help to keep them fuller and asleep for longer to give you some rest for at least a handful of hours. My LO got too comfortable at the breast and just wanted to fall asleep before she was full which only added to the hungry night wakings.
Every baby is different mine stopped at 6 weeks then at 4 months started up again.
Mine started sleeping 5-6 hours at a time at 8 weeks
I worked on training her though. Letting her cry for a minute or two to see if she goes back to sleep. Or holding/rocking her to go back to sleep before feeding her. I only fed her id she was exhibiting true hunger cues and not just needed comfort other wise they associate the feds with being comforted back to sleep.
For me it was like 10 weeks 5-6 hours

Mines 5 months and weāre still waking every 2 hoursā¦maybe 3 if weāre lucky. I think weāve had one 6 hour stretch š®āšØ absolutely exhausted!
Mine started sleeping 7+ hours straight around 3 months. Then the 4 month sleep regression hit. At 5 months she would do 5-6 hour stretches, 1 wake at night. Now the 6 month sleep regression is kicking my bootyā¦š 1.5-2 hour stretches. Sometimes 3hr if Iām lucky for the past month

Yes it can last a while, definitely be mentally prepared for that and find other ways to cope - whether thatās you napping in the day, cosleeping, or whatever else you find helps you feel more rested. Make sure youāre drinking lots of water and consider multivitamins too. The newborn stage is hard in all ways including sleep, be kind to yourself and remember this wonāt last forever!
Yes you can work on things like sleep hygiene, and short bedtime/nap routines, and these things may help. But remember that all babies have different temperaments and so if you find that regardless of what you do, baby is still waking regularly just know that you havenāt failed, they just need lots of support from you and thatās okay!
Iād really recommend following accounts such as Lyndsey hookway, second star to the right sleep, and little nest sleep on Instagram. These accounts give realistic expectations but also have some good little tips to try optimise where you can, working with babes temperament x
honestly once HV say they are back to birth weight and no longer worried about their weight, donāt wake them for feeds! if theyāre hungry they will wake up, so unless told to wake them up by a professional due to weight concerns or other things i wouldnāt wake them. i stopped waking my little girl at like 2 weeks old and she started sleeping 4 hour stretches and then at like 8 weeks old she slept through the night and still does at 10 months ! xx
