My 5.5 week old has been easily eating 4.5 ounces of formula at a time for the last 2 weeks. The pediatrician said he should only be having 4 every 3 hours and then try to stretch 4 ounces over 8 hours during the night, only feeding him if he cries for more than 10 minutes. My concern is that now he’s crying incessantly before we hit 3 hours. I think he’s ready for more food, but I’m worried about giving him too much. How much was your baby having at 5 weeks old?

Follow your instincts mama 💕
Eating 4oz, 7/8 times a day during weeks 4 and 5. My pediatrician says feed em so long as they ask for it
That’s what I was thinking too. The timing the doctor said we should follow is based on the book Babywise which is intended to get baby sleeping through the night quickly, but it breaks my heart to let him cry for even 5 minutes. I’m a first time mom and feeding has been very close to the top of the list that gives me anxiety.
4 oz?! My kid starts drooling it out after 3... He's combo feeding and there is no schedule though.
Ummmm what!? The advice is your baby has to cry for 10 minutes before you feed them at night!? That’s insane to me, and sounds absolutely miserable for baby, mom, and whoever else is in the house. I let my baby lead the way. He asks for milk and I give him milk until he is full. Simple as that. I don’t think we need to be stressing about the timing and the amount as much as we do sometimes. The audacity of these providers telling moms these strict rules and to let their baby cry for 10 minutes (which can feel like an eternity!) honestly makes no sense to me… just crazy. My baby was eating about the same amount as yours and sometimes would have 4 oz and then in 30 minutes finish off another 2 oz and then take a long, blissful sleep. You’re doing great, trust your gut and your babies cues! 💕
My baby eats 4 ounces and she is a month old and 5 weeks old she eats every 3 hrs
3 oz every 3-4 hours. Sometimes he’ll get hungry around 2.5 hours.
I was feeding my now 6 week old 5 ounces every 4 ours but her pediatrician said we were over feeding her, now she’s eating 4 every 4 hours, and sometimes even longer than four hours. He said “If she still seems hungry with 4oz, add a tsp of rice cereal per ounce of formula”. But I would ask yours before doing it
@Kayla did you have to regularly add rice cereal? I would love to start getting 4 hour stretches during the day time.
@Katherine I haven’t done it yet, because she’s been taking the 4oz and lasting a while on it. For example, her first bottle for today was at 9:40, and I just fed her again around 3:50. So she’s doing better. I think for her it’s because she has bad acid reflux, so we had to bump her down an ounce…
@Aubrey tbis sounds like my little one right now. He’ll be 5weels on Monday. And can sometimes go for the straight 4 and then ask for one more in 30 mins. And then get a 2-3hr nap and then only ask for 2oz.
I was also concerned but I’m combo feeding on demand.
Mines 5 weeks as well and eating 4oz every 2-3 hrs I’m a FTM but I would say feed the baby when he’s hungry:( why let them suffer
Mine drinks 4
