Heart murmur

My little one had flu a while back but while we were in hospital a doctor noticed he also had a heart murmur and said it would most likely be caused by the flu and would go away in a couple of weeks. 4 weeks later we get it followed up and it's still there.

Before the 4 week follow up appointment, we got a letter saying we had been referred to paediatric cardiologist - what's concerned me is why would they refer me before the follow up? I was told I would only be referred if it was still present at the follow up. Could it be that it's actually something serious and that's why they referred us sooner?

Has anyone got advice? I'm scared and worried

I'm so sorry to hear you have been going through that. They may have done that as sometimes the wait times can be a while for specialist appointments and it's best to investigate early. Always best to see a cardiologist as they're the experts so will give the best advice and peace of mind. I have a heart murmur and when my baby was born they referred us even though they couldn't hear a murmur but wanted to be ultra safe because of my history. They are very cautious with young children and anything to do with the heart so they will just want to make sure they took all the right steps. Wishing you all the best ❤️

We had this with my daughter too, it was found when she was ill and we took her to urgent care but it was still present when the GP checked. We waited 9 months for the cardiologist appointment and they scanned her. She still has the murmur but it’s nothing to worry about at all. Incidentally they found that one of the tubes into her heart twists the opposite way to normal which apparently 1% of the population have… just a little quirk and not related to the murmur at all but was cool to find out.

I know it’s easy to say but try to not worry, apparently murmurs are quite common and not necessarily a bad thing. 😊

My son has a heart murmur that was discovered on his newborn checks. He was checked another 3x and still present and then every 6 months until now. He still has it and echocardiograms revealed he has a hole in his heart (he did have 2 but one closed by itself). He will need an operation in around a years time and then will lead a completely normal life.

It’s never bothered him/ caused us any issues, he’s growing well and meeting milestones etc.

We were told lots of babies/ people have them and never know so it’s actually a good thing that we do!

I've been absolutely fine in my case and it hasn't impacted my life or needed treatment thankfully. The flu can sometimes impact the heart (I had some fluid there once after a virus and they did a few checks to be safe). Knowledge is power so it's a good thing to do the right checks and know what you're dealing with. Goodluck!

I wouldn’t be worried, the waiting lists for cardiology are long! They likely just referred you now so you get seen quicker, my little boy was on the list to get seen by ENT, he had his sleep study last August and it showed his oxygen levels sit at around 90-94 when asleep and we only saw ENT at alder hey at the start of may this year and that was with an urgent referral xx

What did everyone pack for their section? I'm staying in for 3 days due to mental health, not really sure what I'll need to bring, feeling very nervous. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Pregnancy after c section

What time scale did everyone get pregnant again after a c section?
I know the doc said they recommend eating at least a year to 18 months but it took 4 years to get pregnant the first time after being told we could not conceive naturally so not wanting to stop it happening knowing it could take a very long time again but also worried.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.

19 month olds height

Hi, my little boys height is 77.5cm. Doctors seem concerned and are looking at investigating, anyone else been through similar? He’s 20 pounds also. He’s 19 months old

C section trauma ?

Is it a thing to be traumatised by a c section delivery? I’m 4 weeks pp after having an emergency c section. I won’t go into the ins and outs to what got me there 😂
Nothing went wrong in the surgery at all, it was just incredibly intense, overwhelming and scary, but luckily my baby was delivered safe!
However I’m finding my birth experience quite difficult to even think about and when I do, I feel a horrid gut wrenching feeling, my heart aches and I just uncontrollably cry! My body feels really alien to me, like it’s not my own and I just feel really let down.
