My baby is 4 and a half weeks old and I feel like I’m loosing my mind with sleep deprivation.
I cannot get him settle in his crib for more than 45 minutes at night. He seems so uncomfortable on his back after a while (he does suffer with trapped wind and colic a bit), but I just cannot cope with not getting enough any sleep, last night I was lucky if I got an hour and a half.
Only way he settles is sleeping on my chest or my husbands.
Doesn’t help he’s super bunged up and phlegmy as well the past two nights.
I feel like I’m pulling my hair out, anyone else suffering with this or are your baby’s sleeping better?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Learn more about our guidelines.Could he have silent reflux if he seems uncomfortable on his back? My son has been suffering and has been prescribed gaviscon, and it has helped enormously.
@Gillian did you take him to the GP about it?
It was the same with me until I’ve got him into a routine. Also I give him anti colics and gases drops every day after his bath because I give him a bath 7:30pm, after colics drops and then his bottle, he sleeps fine until midnight then normally wakes up every 3h for a bottle and a nappy change, little sound with white noise in the background and we don’t interact with him. Some days isn’t peaceful but some days are just so good that you don’t even notice. Also, if you’re bathing him have you tried giving him a camomile tea bath for a change?? That was a game changer for me x
Yes but it was more obvious initially for us as it wasn't silent to begin with as he was bringing up milk through his nose when on his back and was prescribed carobel to thicken the milk. We were told that if the milk stops coming up but he still seems in pain that it could become silent reflux. So we've had to visit the GP twice.
@Gillian omg same here, I still haven’t seen them I’ve got an appointment today because of that. He couldn’t take the formula powder was too strong for him, the only thing that settles him down is the ready made formula and sometimes you can see he’s in agony
Pretty much the same but mine starts from 2am! I wind him and he falls asleep on me but the moment I transfer him and he is on his back for about 20 min he is grunting and crying with his legs pulled up! I’ve tried feeding upright, burning and bicycle legs but even with getting the wind out he is still struggling. I’m not sure if I should try meds, I’ve been holding off as I wanted to try not introduce meds so early but both of us suffering is not great
Try infacol before his feed to help with wind. Also a warm bath helps before bed.
Hang in there! It’ll get easier x
Thank you! I’m going to give that a bash and see if it helps! I’ve been doing the bath and it does help loads but just not enough to see him through a full night of comfort 😢 crossing fingers x
I had the same issue, went to the GP and was prescribed Gaviacon Infant for silent reflux and things have improved.
It might be worth contacting your GP. I hope you get things sorted ☺️
My first was like this and it got better after week 12. I think his stomach was just developing to be able to hold the milk down.
Cosleeping helped. Kicked partner out and followed safe sleep 7. Sometime was easier to slide him off me and snuggle in then slowing roll him to his back from being in side sleep position.
When it was really bad early on I had no choice but to chest sleep. Propped up with pillows. We both got more sleep that way. They can hear your heartbeat and your very in tune with their breathing especially if breastfeeding as you sleep so lightly. @cosleepy on insta has advice on this.
I’m not sure if this will help as I’m yet to try it but I saw this video on insta earlier from a baby osteopath: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGlmUlps0xK/?igsh=MWZ3NDFpenYxNGVrbw== may potentially help ease the discomfort 😊 I’m going to try it today
What kind of bed you have for them? We have a next-to-me but our boy wouldn’t settle in it so we’ve used a Moses basket instead & he’s much happier in that. Will aim to move him up to the more spacious next-to-me when he’s grown out of the Moses
