Can a pediatrician refuse to see your child because you don't want to give him the MMR vaccine? I’m in Florida

Learn more about our guidelines.Yes!!! They can, they abide by the CDC guidelines. You’d have to take your baby to a holistic pediatrician, they’ll give you the option to choose which vax’s you’d like to give your baby with more information on them
It depends on the criteria of the practice. Some doctors offices DO require the recommended vaccinations, while others don’t. If you’re unsure about policies, you could always call and ask the front desk staff. But typically they’ll have you sign some kind of waiver.
As a medical assistant in Florida who’s worked for 3 different pediatrician offices
Absolutely
no judgement, but why are you opting out of the MMR vaccine? and yes they absolutely can deny you.
Yes they can. They want what they believe is best for the child and don’t have to treat if you refuse to treat or go against the science and recommended guidelines for safety.
Yes! They most likely had you sign paperwork stating that you will follow a certain vax schedule and if you don’t follow that, they can say you’re not in compliance with their policy.
It’s in those pages that you sign on your first appt.
My pediatrician did and we switched offices. HUGE difference! It doesn’t have to be a holistic office either. We actually switched from a family owned practice to a pediatrician that’s affiliated with a big hospital. She was much more respectful of my wishes. If it applies to you, you can go to the health department and get a religious exemption form for your little one, so they won’t bother you about the vaccines every visit.
Yes. If their policy is to adhere to the CDC schedule they can release you for refusing any of the required ones
@Ember Contraindications and side effects more than likely. Here are just some of the contraindications
Severe Allergic Reactions: Do not administer the MMR vaccine to individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to any component of the vaccine or after a previous dose of any measles, mumps, and rubella virus-containing vaccine.”
“Immunosuppression: Due to the risk of disseminated vaccine virus infection, do not administer the MMR vaccine to individuals with severe humoral or cellular (primary or acquired) immunodeficiency.”
“Febrile Seizure: There is a risk of fever and associated febrile seizure in the first 2 weeks following immunization with M-M-R II vaccine. For children who have experienced a previous febrile seizure (from any cause) and those with a family history of febrile seizures there is a small increase in risk of febrile seizure following receipt of M-M-R II vaccine.”
“Hypersensitivity to Eggs: Individuals with a history of anaphy…
@Ember And side effects:

Fever
Mild rash
Swollen glands (cheeks or neck)
Temporary joint pain/stiffness
Febrile seizures
Temporary low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
Allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
Encephalitis
100%
You're not only, not following their medical advice but putting their other patients who may be too young to get said vaxx yet at risk whenever you go in. You're a liability to them and they will not risk their license for that
One of my friends chose not to get the MMR because of fear of autism. Now she’s afraid of her daughter getting measles because of the outbreaks in Florida. Whatever you do, do it out of empowerment-not fear. Doctors have a right to refuse care but not all will. Gotta look around and ask questions.
I schedule for several pediatric specialities including primary care and most facilities in the state require vaccination. The benefits outweigh the risks, but good luck finding someone who doesn’t. 🤜✨🤛
@Stephanie And what if her child isn’t a good candidate due to the contraindications and side effects listed on the inserts? They didn’t even review me or my child’s medical history before trying to give her 13 vaccines at 2 months old. My friend went to the same appointment, got her son vaccinated, and one week later he was hospitalized due to seizures, brain swelling, and throwing up blood, which was ultimately listed as a vaccine reaction. These babies don’t have a developed nervous system to take in all of the fillers, dna, and other ingredients that are in these vaccines.
@Amanda My best friend’s son is in the hospital right now having seizures, throwing up blood, and brain swelling from his 4 month vaccines. He’s been in intensive care for two weeks because of the side effects. This is the third friend of mine this has happened to in just the past year. The benefits do not out way the risks.
The side effects for Measles is
Pain areas: in the muscles
Whole body: fever, malaise, fatigue, or loss of appetite
Nasal: runny nose or sneezing
Also common: skin rash, dry cough, pink eye, diarrhea, headache, koplik's spots, sensitivity to light, sore throat, or swollen lymph nodes
The side effects for the MMR vaccine
Fever
Mild rash
Swollen glands (cheeks or neck)
Temporary joint pain/stiffness
Febrile seizures
Temporary low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
Allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
Encephalitis (brain swelling)
Encephalopathy (A broad term for any brain disease that alters brain function or structure)
Yes. If you need help finding a doctor, message me. I’m in Florida too
@Haley Long if your child isn't a good candidate, it doesn't change anything I said. You need to find a practice that won't follow the state guidelines
@Stephanie many of the drs who have the CDC schedule requirement do make exemptions of medical need, it just has to be proven.
I had an allergic reaction to TDAP and MMR, so the pediatrician gave my kid TDAP individually instead of on the day with the rest, ended up reacting to TDAP.
Pediatrician did say lots of people try to make up reasons why their kid “can’t” have it instead of just being honest and saying they don’t want it
@Ciara 100% but she said it was just out of fear because her friends son twice removed had issues
There are plenty of doctors who will still see your child if you don’t vax, good job mama for doing research and having informed consent. You know what’s best for your child, whether you do or don’t. What area are you in?
@Ember I’m not the original poster but the MMR has been the most controversial vaccine as people have seen the most injury from it such as autism. That would be my guess.
@Stephanie Vaccine refusal/excemption policies are also a right by state guidelines. But I do understand what you’re saying.
Any pediatrician has the right to refuse serving anyone who’s unvaccinated unfortunately! I would Just call around and find a doctor who will accept your child💗
