I was recently reading that babies meconium, cord, or sometimes urine are used in drug testing after birth. They test for THC, alcohol, and other substance abuse and I saw that THC use can take 5mths to clear. I usually don’t smoke, but this past month I’d say I’ve smoked a total of 2.5/3 joints altogether. I have a little over 2mths left prior to give birth and I no longer smoke nor have I smoked heavily during this pregnancy. Will CPS have to get involved? What can I do to prevent this situation. I would never intentionally hurt my baby, and my anxiety is through the roof during this pregnancy (FTM) so I hit the joint a couple times to take the edge off.

There’s nothing you can do really. Just cross your fingers and don’t do it again.
My baby tested positive in a legal state, I had to provide my medical card and have a home visit. That was it though. He was tested due to being an emergency situation(abruption)
I’m in a state that is NOT legal at all and for me, they didn’t test me. I’ve heard they will test if there’s reasonable suspicion so I just never told my doc about my smoking
Fl I did the same I was super worried about the testing but they didn’t test mine, dont give them a reason to think they need to test every time they asked me I told them I didn’t smoke cause I know how that looks
Everyone is different, but it’s dependent on which state you’re in, etc. I don’t want to give you false hope. In my state, you’re tested during your third trimester in the regular sample you give at ob. If you test positive, then a case is opened because they are required to report it. If there are complications, they will test the baby. My ob was very adamant that in my state they’re not taking a baby away for a small amount of weed usage, but I also had documentation regarding all of the medication I had to come off of for pregnancy.
You should be fine .
This is so crazy! In the UK all tests require consent. So you could just ask for YOUR placenta to stay in YOUR care and not be tested.
How in the USA are you being tested involuntarily and then being charged for it? What type of “land of the free” is that please?
@Faye that is a fantastic question 😅
@Faye as American we are scratching our brains just as much, if not more now than yall. lol as far as land of the free refers to -you can do it but you can also get arrested
ETA: this is in response to the incognito quick reply of “it’s legal in Illinois “
It’s legal in adults in Illinois. There is no state on the US where it is legal in any infant. The earliest we allow child consumption for medical reasons is, during my last round of research, 4, and even that is so heavily debated legally.
During my pregnancy, there were three states that were in their state Supreme Court discussing medical cards specifically for pregnant women. All three states ended up saying it would need to be revisited after federal law changed to make our whole country legal. My son is 15 months today
You have a right to say you don't want you or your baby to be drug tested, it's not medically necessary for them to do so, and if I were you I'd make it known
@Faye nobody is getting tested without consent in the US either. People need to read what they sign. They have already given consent.
@SquishyMommy1 that makes more sense to me! It would be so wild for your healthcare system to be carrying out test /procedures, anything without consent but then trying to send you the bill????!!!💀
i think it depends on your state. i live in a legal state and if they drug tested we were never told about it
@Jenny I wouldn’t expect it to be legal in children, I was simply stating that marijuana is legal in Illinois for recreational use.
@Kaylee I just didn’t want to seem guilty bringing it up, but if they suggest it to me then I will decline. Again, I’m not a heavy smoker. I just took a couple puffs here and there over the last month because my anxiety was through the roof. I didn’t like taking my anxiety medications because I was still in the stage where I was experiencing side effects, yet they claimed it was safe for the baby. I didn’t want to risk it. Overall, I’m done with taking anything atp. I wouldn’t want to hurt my baby. I appreciate all of you all responses too ❤️
