Currently 31 weeks with my first baby and I’m hoping someone who’s done this before can help. Do you genuinely need all these things being listed on the hospital bag lists? Some of them genuinely would fill a suitcase and (maybe very naively) seem quite excessive to me. Obviously there are essentials but it’s hard to figure out what absolutely is and isn’t needed. Can anyone shed some light for me? For context I live 15 mins away from the hospital so my husband would be able to grab anything needed should I have to stay in for any length of time. It’s not as much a financial thing as a practical thing, and to me the more things you have the more opportunity for it to become a faff. I’ve got some baby bits from vinted and can see by suggested items, the sheer number of unused peri bottles, maternity pads, pants etc for sale that not everyone uses everything.

Learn more about our guidelines.I barely used anything I brought to the hospital with my first labor. Didn’t eat the snacks, was in a hospital gown the whole time, didn’t have any down time to do anything! And we live very close as well so this time I’m just going light.
There is definitely a lot out there that just isn’t needed! I really recommend pads or those adult nappies because you do bleed a lot so it’s just easier than knickers and faffing! I didn’t bother with a peri bottle, just put water on tissue and held it when I went for a wee.
A couple pair of pjs but I spent most time in a gown! Like you said, you’re close to the hospital so can nip back for things!
I did under estimate how many baby grows needed for baby, I packed 2 lol, used closer to 5. X
I took a big suitcase and still needed more brought to me - I’m always an over packer anyway as I prefer to have everything I need rather than need something and not have it. Definitely take lots of pads / pants and I think a few changes of clothes as I was induced so was in there 4 days better to be prepared and less stress on others to bring stuff in my opinion
Plus I’m always a shower twice a day person so day outfit and clean pjs every night same for baby I wouldn’t have baby in the same clothes all day and night but everyone’s different x
I’m an over packer, however I’ve packed enough for one nights stay as my other half will have to pop home (40mins) and feed the cats so can always grab more stuff if needed. But mine all fits in a ‘cabin case’ and I still have loads of room. X
I had a small suitcase for us both and tbh barely used much of the stuff packed for me. Never ate any of the snacks 😅 definitely pack good few days worth for baby. We also live fairly close to our local hospital, 20mins, and work there. So knew what was available there and husband couldn't stay past 10pm due to covid rules. He did pop bavk around dinner time to feed our cat and took some stuff home for washing that night. But we chose to go home pretty quickly
I went into labour w my mobile phone and not a thing else
Whatever i needed was brought
And nobody was harmed
So this time im really really chill
