If your little one already has the flu a flu shot is going to be pretty useless and or could actually cause more issues. There's ingredients within lots of vaccines that are designed to aggitate the body to create a immune response and sometimes it means it will bog down the body that's already fighting something off. That slows down the healing of fighting something off so. We do a lot of alternative and holistic health care and health preventative in our household. So when it is that time of the year when lots of people are having the common cold and flu and pneumonia we up colloidal nickel, collodoal silver and iodine because it helps support the immune system so your body can just naturally fight it off. And there's no harm in starting something like that after already catching the flu or common cold because it does nothing bad or adverse to your body. And it's safe for the little ones.

However, one thing that could potentially do something the opposite direction would be accidentally taking too much iodine. It charges the thyroid which controls your immune system and too much will make it go into overdrive and will actually put you into detox. Which if you're already sick, a detox is just going to make you feel even worse. Getting it naturally by eating a little extra spinach or kale or seaweed is great. Then after you're all healed up and feeling better, go ahead and take the supplement into detox, that's fine.

Yes! Once she turns 3 I will. I’ve gotten it every year and not gotten the flu. 6 yrs ago I missed my flu shot and got a horrible horrible flu.

I know this is going to sound stupid but we can all be honest here with know judgement right? It is my husband who says no to flu shoots. He seems to think that everyone he knows gets the flu even though they had the shot. I don't agree but since I pretty much make all the decisions for our daughter I let him have this one.

My sister always gets sick, but my daughter had one at 6 months and 1.5 years and didn’t even get a fever. But I definitely pick my battles with my husband. So I understand.

The flu shot does not make you get the flu as it is a dead virus vaccine, particles of the virus that generate and immune response in your body that when you are exposed to the virus itself your body can defend itself against it. I’m a physician. If you report you “get the flu” when you get vaccinated two things are possible: 1: you were already exposed to it when you got the vaccine, 2: the vaccine was not effective (this year for instance it was only 30% effective), other years it is better, to me 30% is still better than 0%.

No, because mine end up severely sick. For my baby her dad said he wanted to, i said fine & she was severly sick for 4 months. I told him thats why i never do flu shots.

We give it. Even when it’s not that effective it’s supposed to help lessen symptoms. I know 2 years in a row Callie got her flu shot and my husband and I didn’t and 2 years in a row Callie didn’t get sick and my husband and I did. I’m getting it next year. Ultimately, you have to do what you are more comfortable with. Listen to your gut and if you don’t get them the flu shot just be careful about wiping up and watching to make sure baby doesn’t put things in their mouth.

Absolutely yes. Our family has gotten the flu shot every year for several years. It’s the best choice for us. The flu shot protects against respiratory flu virus, which could turn deadly quick. We have a heart patient in our house, and if this is an option for extra protection, it’s a yes for our family. Consult your physician with concerns always. We take probiotics and vitamins, diffuse essential oils. We haven’t had the flu for over five years in our house. Not even the stomach flu.

Ive always gotten my kids the flu shot and they've only gotten the flu once .. ive always gotten the flu shot and i havent had the flu in years

My pediatrician and I schedule it early in the season and I don’t miss it. Vaccines are not harmful and I feel lucky that my kids don’t have to go through the same illnesses I did as a kid that were scary, miserable and dangerous! 🙂👍🏻

My whole family gets the flu shot every year. For myself I am required to as my I have MS and my DMMs require I have it annually. My son gets his because I don’t need to deal with a sick kiddo. Last year we did not get the flu. Not sure if we just got lucky or it worked. But since there are no negatives for us, there is no reason for me not to get it every year.

I gave my 2 and a half year old the flu shot and she got the flu immediately. The strain that was out in ‘14 didn’t even protect against it. So i said never again and she’s never had the flu since. She’s asthmatic and is allergic to everything under the sun. That shot is unnecessary and it’s dangerous if you ask me

Same happen to me

It’s nuts. I mean they are pushing this shot and I don’t know what for. Daycares what religious reasons as to why it’s ridiculous

After seeing ‘the truth about vaccines’ we are not giving our baby any shots. My gut told me no from the start because of so many issues I’ve heard in the past. I also never had the flu shot growing up and haven’t had any problems. The only people I’ve known to get the flu are the ones that had the flu shot!

We didnt give our daughter the flu shot til she was 2 or 3 years old. Only because we felt she was still too little to handle the flu if she had the virus in her already. The only way you can get the flu from the flu shot is if the virus is already in you. She has now had the shot every year for 2 years now. The first shot they did only half of the flu shot dose and had us wait 30 mins to see if she would have a reaction and she didnt so we came back in a week or 2 for the last half and we waited again to see if she would have a reaction and she didnt. So now she gets the full shot every year and it has been great! She hasnt had the flu at all! It also helps to get it the same time every year. I myself even get the flu shot and i havent caught it myself in over 3 years.

The flu shot has so many side effects with "All" the toxinsin it. Have your body, fight the flu naturally. I have never given my child the flu shot and he has never gotten the flu.

My daughter gets all her shots. I talked to nurses and doctors (my MIL included) and they all recommended getting it

Yes, I believe the benefit outweighs the risk!

I definitely get my kids the flu shot! We get them every year and non of my kids have had the flu yet. This momma hates seeing her kids sick even with a stuffy nose because they can’t deal with it like we can as adults. So anything I can do to help them build immunity I do it! I am also the mom that believes a handful of dirt a day keeps the sick away! Haha!

I gave my daughter a flu shot she caught the flu a week later I never gave my son the flu shot he never got the flu

I never had the flu but one time as a kid and that was the only year I got the flu shot. I am pro-vaccination when it comes to important diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, hep a/b, etc, by the flu is such an ever-changing virus that half the time they don’t even come up with a formula that covers the main flu strain of that year so it doesn’t help much at all. I’d rather just teach my kid to wash their hands and keep their fingers out of their nose and mouth when they’ve been touching things and keep germ-x on me at all times if they want to eat a snack or something in public and don’t have a place to wash their hands yet. I also don’t let my kiddo touch certain thing in public especially while she’s so little (ie: books and toys in waiting rooms, random things in doctors offices or public places that many other people touch, things in a public bathroom, etc like my mom always did with my brothers and I growing up). I just don’t find that particular vax worth it.

We don’t get the shot as a family not because we’re anti vaccine but because we happen to be allergic to it I still get my kids every other shot they need (yes need) because by them getting the shot it protects others who can’t get vaccines and the ones who choose blindly not to get one.... get the shot watch your child after you know your child best you’ll know when something is off my eldest is pound energetic and hates shots she had the combo shot they give all infants that has the flu shot in it and I’ve never see her so calm and quiet after a shot that’s not like her it was like you replaced my child now my 1 yr old never got it because I explicitly told them no but that was only because after the whole family’s reaction I wasn’t going to risk it with my son

I do give my daughter the flu shot because I would rather her be protected then take the chance at her getting the flu. She got broncholitis at 6 months old and that was scary enough. The flu can kill little kids. I won’t take that chance.

To each their own but my daughter got very sick the first time I gave it to her and we never did it again. Did more harm than good. 3 years without and she hasn’t gotten sick once.

I did this year but to be honest I don't think I'll do it again. It's so scary to make these types of decisions. We all just hope we make the right one! Best of luck to you momma.

When it comes to the flu shot, I personally don’t find it unnecessary. My husband had coworkers come down with the flu (half his shop was actually sick), so he was exposed to it but no one in our house got sick. I personally have never had the flu. When it comes to these kinds of vaccines, just do what you think is best for your family.

I’m still on the fence about how I feel about the flu shot. That being said, everyone in my household (including my 3 year old got it) this year because my son was still too young and I didn’t want him getting sick. When he turned 6 months, he also got it because the flu was projected to be really bad this year. We still all got the flu but it may have been worse without the shots 🤔

I’m all for vaccines, but not that one. It’s one strain of flu against a million other types of flu. We had a flu epidemic recently and a couple of people even died. But most of the people who went to the hospital were the ones who got the flu shot. We just choose to ride it out on our own if we get sick.

I vaccinate my girls for everything mandatory except the flu cz its not. Also, i took the shot myself and got the flu 4 times after taking it.

Are you or your child going to be in contact with the immuno-suppressed or the very young or the elderly? If yes, then it would be the socially responsible thing to do. Tip: it's helpful to spread out vaccinations to avoid reactions if you're sensitive or particularly prone to them.

Because of personal experience who ended up so sick from the flu, it turned septic and he ended up passing away, he was 4yo. I don’t hesitate to give me kids the flu shot.

I can’t even express how grateful I am for all of the insight and support I’m getting from every single one of you! I love seeing both sides of the story and this is really helping me :-) thank you all for your personal stories and reasonings!!

I may not always get the flu vaccine myself but I always vaccinate my kids. Protecting them and their vulnerable systems is what we aim to do as moms. It’s what works for my family though. Like someone else said, just do what’s best for your family.

I have gotten the shot and so had my son every year since I was pregnant. This year, he got the shot and the flu, but I never did. It’s hit or miss I suppose. Hopefully he’ll be a little more immune to it in the future as I’ve only had the flu once, but it was years ago.

For myself and my children the flu shot has only made us sick

The flu shot is kind of a waste of time. It’s only good for one strain at a time, and not always the strain that actually hits during a particular flu season. The risks of the flu vaccine are also a lot higher than some of the other vaccines (the doctor I worked for wouldn’t even give it out through her office because of issues with serious side effects). Also, it usually gives you flu symptoms, just a milder form, and having the flu itself is not usually that major an issue unless you have a suppressed immune system.

The flu vaccine is generally a combination of 3-4 flu strains that have been determined by the CDC as prevalent in the coming season. It is a very easily spread virus and can be dangerous in children and the elderly as they tend to have weaker immune systems than the "average" adult. The nasal vaccine contains an attenuated live virus, similar to the varicella vaccine, while the shot is an inactivated form.

I work in a medical office and I see how sick kids get each year, there are so many invisible diseases and viruses all over. Flu is deadly to the very young and the very old.

I am a medical assistant and I do recommend to give your kids the flu shot, more so if the go to school/daycare. But as a mom you know what’s best, go with what you feel it’s safe for you kids.

We didn’t this year (she is one). Her pediatrician (we are military keep this in mind) told us if we didn’t get her the stupid shot that she would die... she is a joke 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

But we did everything else! And will do everything else maybe next year the shot will be better but there was really no point in it this year.

My children have both gotten the flu shot and haven’t gotten sick from the shot thank god. I haven’t had any vaccines since I was 21. I made the choice to not agree to such vaccines because after doing deep research and the poll numbers of hearing so many lives are dying from such vaccines I wish I hadn’t gotten my children the shot now. It’s not helping the immune system fight off the virus it’s actually giving the body the virus and MANY immune systems haven’t been strong enough to handle such chemicals. I don’t follow “studied reports” Because they are lies. I’m a huge advocate for pure natural holistic healing materials that come from plants and natural motherland oils.

No to the flu shot, but yes to other vaccines. When I was supposed to get my son the flu shot back when he was a baby, my gut was telling me no, no, don’t do it! So I didn’t and he’s never had the flu. I’ve also never had the flu shot and I’ve only had the flu once - I’m 29 years old. My husband is required by the military to get a flu shot every year and every year after he gets the shot, he gets a mild case of the flu 🙄

We have gotten them every year since I was pregnant with my first in 2012. This year my 5 yr old did not get it because she never had to go to the doctor during flu season and Was at school when we got ours...annnnnd she GOT the FLU.. no one else in the family caught it from her and we all had our shots about a month prior.. so I believe they work.

No flu shot here. We rarely get sick though I have reacted to it in the past.

Too much unnecessary stuff in it better to use foods and herbs and natural ways to keep your body healthy.

i personally do not, because it is only 30 percent effective and does not work against whatever the newest strand is because it constantly mutates. all those people talking about how important it was to get the flu shot this past winter- did not realize that it would not protect against the strand that was causing all those deaths..... we just make sure we always wash our hands when we get back from a store or before we eat.

Do your research look at the vaccine insert

Hello. Injections are always daunting and I'm sure you've all heard the horror stories. Personally I will always take any vaccinations if offered so I know I've done what I can to avoid them illnesses for my child. Yes, he will probably feel the effects of the vaccinations but I'd rather that than him come down with anything life threatening or something which could make him seriously poorly.

Never got the flu shot, never had the flu. I encourage you to read a vaccine insert, not the information sheet they hand you..but the actual insert. Elderberry is great for boosting your child’s immune system, we give it 3-7x’s a week during flu shot season.

It took 9 months for us to get there, but the changes we’ve made are for the best..❤️

Last time i got the shot almost 10 years ago I had an adverse reaction and was in the hospital for 3 months of my senior year of high school. I couldn't speak nor eat.... It sucked but my daughter gets it bc shes required too for school ...

Do you have to show proof to the school that she got it?

Unfortunately I do have to show proof

Me and my family all get every shot possible. Flu shot included. Never have any of us gotten sick from it in any way!!!

Seeing as the very young and very old are the highest risk groups for death from the flu, I absolutely will! We go for his next Tuesday. Would have gotten it sooner but his pedi wanted a certain amount of time between his MMR and the flu to watch for reactions. The only year I ever skipped my own flu shot was the year I got the flu. As a person with mild asthma, it took me over a month to not be coughing. I had a fever of 103 and literally couldn't get out of bed. My husband (at the time boyfriend) had to carry me to the bathroom to use the toilet. It was the worst illness of my life, and I never want to repeat it or have my son get it. I know the shot isn't always that effective, but some protection is better than none.

Absolutely 💯 I’m surprised to see so many moms here that do not.

I’ve never had the flu shot and never had the flu. Neither have my husband and 3 kids. We avoid public places/bathrooms when necessary, we don’t touch things in public and we wash constantly. I also make homemade elderberry syrup. We take 1 tbsp every day as a preventative. We’ve never been sick, ever! I’ve shared my syrup with friends/family who HAVE had the flu/cold. It shortens their symptoms by a lot and they start feeling better by the end of the day. You can take it every hour while you’re sick until you feel better. ☺️ Hope this helps. I have 3 girls, 5,9 and 11. ☺️

We (my family) get the flu shot. It’s covered in Canada. I get anything that’s covered- if it’s covered then it’s costing the government less to give the vaccine out than it would to treat the illness. It’s not 100% effective but not getting it is 0% effective. I’m an engineer and the math adds up for me. Plus it’s easily accessible, only hurts while you’re getting it and then mildly sore arm for a few days.
