Wanting to conceive by Sperm Donor

I’ve been on the Depo shot for almost 2 years (March 2020 would have made 2 years). My last shot was in July of 2019 and I was suppose to go back for another one in October but I decided not to get the shot anymore because I’m wanting a baby now. Since I’ve been on the Depo shot for so long, my OBGYN said it will be awhile until it’s out of my system since I haven’t had a period since I stopped taking the shot and she wants me to start taking prenatal vitamins. Which will be hard for me to check my fertility. My decision is to use a sperm donor and I’m wanting to start the baby process now but I have no idea on how that works and if I should wait until I have a period to start. Basically, I’m just seeking help, advice, and more information on about what I should do as far as my situation.

I have never been on the depo shot but i would assume you would need a period first so you know when you are ovulating and they would probably check to make sure you are ovulating before inseminating you.

Okay. I made an appointment at a fertility center near me to see what they will say but idk, this is all new for me so I hope I’m doing things right and doing to the right places

Good for you doing it on your own!!! I love it! I'm excited for you even though IDK you! I'm a single mom and wouldn't change it for the world!!

My recommendation is to get genetic testing done

You should also see if you are cmv - or + before choosing a donor. Your fertility clinic will probably recommend it as well

Okay, Thanks. I’ll look that up 😊

I’ve just come off the Depo injection too and my doctor said that you can ovulate before your periods come back. So it might be a good idea to get some OPK’s so it can help you track it. Fingers crossed!

So idk much abt using a sperm donor and such but i would imagine the implantation is expensive no? I would wait until ur sure that ur ovulating which could happen even without ur pd. BUT u definitely should double check and i would def start taking prenatals it helps give ur body the extra nutrients it needs to support the little one. U could try ovulation sticks and start talking your bbt which is a little diff than reg temp to keep track of ur ovulation. I would also prob skip a cycle of ovulation before trying and this is just me im not a medical professional lol but i would just feel like i would wanna get an old egg out of the way since u have been on the depo for so long i wouldnt want like a “rotten egg” again this is just me being a little paranoid not a medical opinion. You should always ask and double check to make sure ur good to go from a dr. But good luck girl hope it all goes well for you!!

I'm currently going through the process of getting a donor for ivf, but I'm pretty sure you'll have to take some of the same tests for an insimanation/iui First you need to book an appointment with a fertility Dr. You will need to wait for a period in order to take some blood work. Hormonal profile, genetic testing, std screening, blood type and vaccination related tests. You'll need these tests for the clinic to decide if you'll need to be assisted by medication for an iui, and to open a file at a sperm bank, which is the next step. Good luck with it all, and I'm here if you need to talk.

Bit of a different situation but similar - I was on zoladex (hormone blocker) so didn’t have periods, when I went off they said it could be up to 3 months for my period to arrive. I began ovulation testing anyway even though I hadn’t had a period yet (this was prob 2 months after last injection)... I ovulated, became pregnant and had a very early miscarriage - which is a common occurance if your body’s hormones are still adjusting and evening out after a treatment or Depo shot. There are a couple of options I’d suggest discussing with your fertility specialist when you do get an appointment - primalut is a medication that can ‘bring on a period’, then they could assist you in tracking and monitoring your cycle afterwards. I would advise (personally) to either ask about this or patiently wait a natural period before going any further. In terms of sperm donation, depending on location this can cost anywhere from $400+ per vile (so only one shot/one day) continued in next comment...

And you’d probably want at least two viles to try on two seperate days for best chances. Also in regards to choosing a donor, laws and processes for this can vary. Do you have someone in mind that you know or looking to go through a clinic and purchase the sperm? (Sorry for the novel!) I wish you all the best xx

It took me 9 months off of depo to get pregnant unfortunately I miscarried with my first but I got pregnant two cycles after my miscarriage got pregnant again which would have been a full year off of depo. But I conceived with my husband I didn’t use a donor so I don’t have much advice on that side.

Ooh wow🤭. I’ve been off the depo shot since July of 2019, should I wait until July of this year to wait ?

Thank you ladies for all the wonderful advice & support🥰. I really appreciate it sooo much. Teaching me things I knew nothing about.💕😘

Just make sure you go to a actual office and not use a friend or something
