My son weaned at 18 months. I quit initiating nursing first (around 15 months), so we only nursed if he was interested, then when we had just the bedtime nurse left I started laying him down with a bottle, which I would then retrieve after he fell asleep. Then I weaned him off the bottle by laying him down without and only got a bottle of he specifically asked. The whole thing was easy, no fighting, no fussing

I Start pumping and put the milk in a bottle. After a week start mixing breast milk with formula and eventually did more formula than breast milk and eventually you just give them formula.

It was a huge struggle to wean off my 20 month old. She used to breastfeed to sleep so when I stoped breastfeeding she cried for 2 h every night for a week or two sometimes she would wake up in the middle of the night wanting to feed and then she would cry for an other hour antill she fell asleep. It was hard and heartbreaking but the only way I could wean off

It took us 2 years and as soon as he feel asleep one night with out it I knew it was time and he didn’t need it anymore .. after we quite he seriously slept all night long before he would wake up atleast every hour to nurse 🤦🏼‍♀️

I think they self wean much later than 16m unfortunately 🙈. We just reduced nursing one session at a time and used distraction mostly during the day. If you’re night nursing they don’t need the milk overnight at this age (unless your child is underweight, so check with your doctor first) so I’d send dad in with water in a bottle for the transition and eventually probably baby will wake less or stop waking for water/dad. Good luck!
