Episiotomy/Tearing

Hi mommas! I just gave birth to my precious boy late Monday night and ending up having to get an episiotomy, as well as a level 3 tear on top of that. I was wondering if any of you had similar experiences and what seemed to help most. I did ice the first 24 hours, i’m using dermoplast, a peri bottle, ibuprofen every 6 hours, & am trying sitz baths but the shower head has been easier cause it’s hard to sit all the way. Just looking for any other recommendations or anything that helped you with tears & peri pain.

I had a episiotomy on 3rd and sitting in a hard bath can be uncomfortable at times. Lying down is OK but I also tend to sit on my knees/feet and splash the water up which helps and that way I know its clean. Only issue I had was coughing afterwards that hurt like a b****h 😂 it's start to itch which means it's healing thank goodness

My first baby I had an episiotomy and the salt baths helped me I had three quick ones a day the soaking really really helps! It was a slow process and to be honest even at my six week checkup I was still a bit tender! Passing my first poop was excruciating :( I won’t ever forget that!!!

Really thin pads and change often ... I found the bigger they were the more they irritated me. Drink tonnes and tonnes of water! X

Not from experience personally as I’m still pregnant but I’ve heard good things about the brand myexpertmidwife they have a spritz for bits spray for helping after delivery, I’m going to order some ready for myself just in case 🤞🏼 x

Congratulations he is beautiful hope mum and baby are well 💙

Witch hazel pads. They were a godsend. Put it together with ice packs and dermoplast and it makes it much easier to get through the day

I had 4th degree tears. Nothing helped. Was in constant pain for about two months. All I can say is time heals.

I haven’t delivered but I couldn’t help but tell you he is absolutely perfect!!!😍😍😍 What a cutie!!! Congratulations!!!!

When i gave birth i tore alot. Best thing i found was witch hazel. I asked for it in the hospital and they got me some pads to use. For me those witch hazel pads along with ice seemed to be my best friend.

I used Magnesium salt flakes in my bath twice a day. I found it made the healing faster Xx

Congratulations his just perfect 💙

OMG I had the same!!!! Damn I could feel the cut from the vagina to my butthole!!! I used a very soft cushion. I used my sleeping U pillow. I made a circle so my vagina was over the hole and not touching the sofa or cushion. I also used a very thick pad. Placing them in the fridge/ freezer and using it helped. Also after every wee/poo, I used water to wash myself down there and used. A hair dryer to dry the area. It also soothed as well. Mine took a long while to heal. Such a slow healer. Good luck x

I used my shower head almost immediately when I got home. It’s way easier than a sits pots.

If like me it’s painful to wee at the moment I good tip I learnt while on the toilet bend over and put your hand on the floor it helps stop the singing 🤦‍♀️(May look like you are doing some weird gymnastics on the toilet though) haha, also I used to jump in the shower every chance I got to help soothe it and also relied on ibuprofen xx

He's so handsome! Witch Hazel helped me so much

Lavender oil in a bath, helps to heal and helps the stitches to dissolve

My friends swears by all the frida mom products!

Few drops of tree oil in the bath, take baths twice per day and keep taking painkillers... i stopped painkillers only after one month... rely on your husband to do the heavy lifting, you just breastfeed and rest :)

A stool softener was so necessary and other than the things you are using, nothing helps but time honestly. I had a vacuum assist and episiotomy and I kept calling the nurse line because I thought for sure I wasnt healing right but after a few weeks it started getting better. Also, dont be like me and try to do too much too early. Relax as much as you can and buy a donut to sit on!

Frida Mom has amazZzzing witch hazel wipes, foam, and these chilled pads. I also took a lot of ibuprofen and sat on a donut pillow for a while because I was so uncomfortable. I feel your pain. It SUCKS. Good luck, and be kind to yourself - these babies don't know what we've gone through for them 😂

PS your baby is beautiful! Wishing you both good health ♥️

Awe thank you so much! I will definitely look into all of those things! It sucks so bad! Especially trying to do things for baby. They definitely don’t but they’re worth all of it😩❤️

They have hemorrhoid pads that have witch hazel in them and are super convenient to put in your pads! Also congratulations on your baby boy he is beautiful 💚

Thank you!💙 I will try that!

I had pretty bad tearing too from a forceps birth. It sounds like you’re already doing everything I did. Witch hazel was helpful too. It sucks but just take it very easy for the first few weeks and let yourself heal. Ask for/accept lots of help so you can heal and enjoy your baby. Congratulations he is beautiful!!!
