Weaning advice...

My daughter is 3 months, and I would love to start her on baby food, I feel as if she’s ready! She’s so smart, and very active? Mommy’s! What do y’all think?

I gave my girl tastes of foods when she was around 3months, by tastes I mean a lick of something I had or something hard to hold and nom on without swallowing it. I didn't start giving her food to eat properly until she was about 4months. This was because she was quite forward in the way that she was sitting by herself confidently, would grab objects/food and put it straight to her mouth. She was able to swallow food and not spit it out, she also had teeth then too. Starting too early can cause a few problems, id suggest letting her have tastes but I wouldnt introduce food for a little while yet.

Thank you 😊

Aww, lovely pic! Food isn’t recommended until 6 months because their digestive systems aren’t fully developed. Nothing to do with intelligence or anything like that. It’s also a lot more work than just milk so I honestly wouldn’t rush into it- it’s mostly just extra time making food and clearing up the mess!

Haha! Thank you for the advice! Stay safe 😁

We started ours on rice cereal at 3 months (recommended by her pediatrician). She was always really interested in food, and i know alot of people are now saying dont start your child on solids before 4 to 6months, but ours did just fine and she loves eating EVERYTHING.

Everything I read said their digestive system isn’t ready until 6months. Everyone is different but that’s my opinion.

The babies digestive system isn’t developed enough until 6 months of age. Feeding her food too early can lead to health problems when she is older. I would wait.

Personally I wouldn’t! Can do more harm than good in the long run and any health care professional will tell you the same x

Speak with your pediatrician. There's a reason babies can't have solids too early. Every baby is different. You need to be sure they follow all signs of readiness as well as them being of a certain age due to their open gut.

Honestly? I think it’s a bad idea. Scientists have studied this. A lot. There are many risks to starting a baby on food too early. These risks include things like obesity, eczema, diabetes, GI problems, and so much more. Some of these problems may not show up until later in her life but she may be stuck with them forever. I know you’re excited but those risks just are not worth it for me.

Can she sit up unaided? That is the absolute minimum I wait for when weaning my babies. At 3 months I don't believe there will be any nutritional value? She will get all that she currently needs from breast milk/formula. I wouldn't like to eat a meal lay down or held up, seems rather uncomfy and unnecessary! x

Unless your pediatrician approves it before 4 months, you should wait. 💗 4-6 months is when it is advised to begin solids.

Seems very young to me

Far 2 young, 6 months is recommended for a reason

As others have said, she should be able to sit without aid but also have lot her tongue thrust which is usually still there at 3 months. Otherwise she isn't ready. Looking at food isn't really a sign - babies look at most things that are near to them

This is a good point to make. Babies look at and reach for many things. If I’m using a knife at dinner, a baby might reach for it. But interest doesn’t equate to readiness.

Not until 6 months and able to sit on her own.

Please don’t. Wait until the recommended age of 6 months.

Please wait at least till 4 months... I started weaning mine at 5 and he wasn't ready, his tummy hurt and farts smelled like food was rotting inside him. I read more that their digestive system fully develops around 6 months. So I stopped for a couple weeks and started again. You will have plenty of time to introduce her to food.

My Doctor actually recommended cereal in my baby's formula at her one month appointment. I think if you feel shes ready go for it!! I'd say pureed food with no seasoning or added sugar. Good luck mama!

But was there a medical reason for your child’s recommendation? Such as reflux?

Hey, I know many people are saying wait until 6 months and others are saying go for it, have you spoken to a health care professional? What signs is she displaying to show she is ready? New research is coming out all the time and recently a health visitor friend of mine said they are changing the “6 month weaning” guidance for babies as many are developing speech problems from being weaned later, however other research states babies stomachs are not advanced enough. It’s up to you, you are mother and you’re going to keep your baby safe and happy. Have a chat with a professional and do your research on unbiased sites. Good luck!

I started all my kids at 4 months. My third was just shy of 4 months as, like yours, the bottles just didn’t seem to satisfy. He’s 9 months and wearing size 1! He looks like a 12 month old. Talk to your gp but mine was the same. Now I can’t keep up lol

I started with the odd bit of baby rice at 4 months. She had a big appetite. Then introduced other food around 5 months. She's a healthy 2 year old now

My son is 6 months and still trying to figure out how to swallow baby food. I'd wait

My Health visitor but my youngest on food from 4 months for medical reasons speak to them before changing anything

No. I’d speak to a health professional. It’s advised to wait because the gut isn’t fully developed yet. You could do more harm than good by starting her too early.

No 3 months is to early they can't even hold head up. I am planning to start next week at 5 months and see how it goes
