Getting paid less than male counterparts?

Do you think (or know) that you're making less than males at your job or within your industry? How would you approach this topic with your boss?

Idk I dont think I would approach my boss directly if that was happening to me, I would probably go to HR about it first cause they could handle the situation better and could bring it up with the boss, but if that was not a option I guess I would be blunt and request a to speak with my boss in private and just say that I noticed my male coworkers are being payed more than me and I would like to know why? but if that didnt work and the boss ends up not doing anything about it and I knew for a fact and had proof I was being payed less I would report the company to The Federal Department of labor Wage and Hour Division, cause there the ones who deal with stuff like this and its illegal for them not pay female workers the same wage as the males who do the same job. Also Is this just all hypothetical or is this happening to you?

I know I’m getting paid less than my male counterpart. My boss knows too. We’ve discussed it extensively recently because it’s raise time.

I’m the only female that works for my company in the town I’m from and I know for sure I make more then a few guys I work with that have been there way longer then I and they know too and have bitched about it but it’s because I work harder and faster then them and my boss knows it. Just depends on your work performance I guess..... not all bosses are bad. But if it’s an issue talk to your boss or HR

I think it’s about being confident in what you deserve and being able to speak up about it. There were many times I approached my boss about a pay increase, not just to match then men but to keep competitive-wages with other women as well. I always want to be the one to go above and beyond... climb the latter, so I presented my ‘proof’ and information in my favor to keep my wages up.

I would never mention that you KNOW you make more than your male counterparts. Approach your boss about a salary increase based on your worth! Make your case and try not to be afraid to ask for what you feel is right. I know so many women (even women I previously worked with) who stuck it out making far below even the market wage because they were afraid to ask and their boss knew that so they never brought it up either.

We all make the same :)

I got paid the same .We both had the same qualifications and however i had more experience than him. He left the company though.

I get paid less than my male coworkers. I have discussed it with my boss. He initially promised to raise me up to the same pay at the end of the year but when he did not follow through there wasn’t really anything I could do.

At my old job we were not allowed to talk to other people about our income. I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with his. 😩

I think it’s a good rule of thumb to negotiate for 20% more than what was offered because women are paid on average 20% less than their male counterparts
