When should I start buying maternity clothes?

Hi everyone, first day on the app so still trying to figure it all out but I’m currently 13 weeks + 4 days pregnant. I’m feeling so fat at the moment and I know I’ve got a long way to go 😂 normally my tummy is completely flat so I can tell I’ve already got a little bump but my normal clothes are starting to get a little tight and uncomfortable. I was just wondering when everyone first got a bump? And when is the best time to buy maternity clothes?! Thanks 💕

Oh wow that’s good!! I’m hoping to maybe just but the next size up then xx

I didn’t buy much maternity clothes. 2 pairs of maternity jeans and a few tank tops. I bought dresses and mini skirts that I could wear post pregnancy to save money and I found maternity clothes to be pretty bleeh

I’m hoping I don’t have to buy much. But I don’t have a uniform etc for work so I have to find something different to wear every day which is a pain normally let alone when pregnant. But before pregnancy I was a size 6/8 depending on the item of clothing and where it was from but now my size 8’s are getting so tight and uncomfortable!xxx

I cocktailed when I was pregnant so buying black maxi skirts and dresses. Nice black yoga pants and leggings were a godsend. I never wore jeans but I did buy a few nice pairs from Hudson jeans. Really good material/comfy and I wore them out of the hospital and few weeks postpartum. I gained 13 lbs my entire pregnancy so this might not be much help. I know some of my friends HAD to buy maternity clothes mid pregnancy because of weight gain

I got A line flowy cotton dresses and were able to wear for my whole pregnancy and could even know if I didn’t need breastfeeding clothes. Around 16 weeks I got maternity clothes mostly from Walmart and a consignment store.

Ahh great, thank you so much for your help! xxxx

I am 18 weeks and I haven’t really bought any maternity clothes at all! I’ve always been quite small (size 6/8) so my bump isn’t really showing at all but like you said I’m used to my tummy being super flat so I do feel fat even though there’s not much there! I think for the next few months you could just buy a few bits in a couple of sizes up so they’re not as tight and uncomfortable? Then you could see what your bump is like and whether you get big enough for maternity clothes. So far I’ve just bought T-shirt’s and bits in a size medium and they’ve worked perfectly. Xx

That’s a good idea. I’ve got a few midi dresses that are stretchy that I can wear that are really comfy! But jeans and stuff I can’t wear for a long period of time. Just don’t want to spend lots on buying maternity clothes, I’d rather spend my money on the baby! Thanks for your help xxx

I'm 16 weeks today and still waiting for my bump 😔 but I've been told as first pregnancy and high bmi that it might take longer or might not even show 🙄

First kid- my bump didn’t show up until I was 16wks? I managed then to still wear most of my clothes. Second kid- as soon as I found out I was pregnant haha jk ( kinda of) There’s no time line when you should buy maternity clothes, it’s up to you and your comfort, if you like wearing dresses you can get away w it for more time, if your jeans pants seems tight or not buttoning then get yourself maternity pants 👖 or stick w your leggings! Ps: cute bump, congrats, enjoy your pregnancy 🤰

Aww thank you! I’m just going to buy some more stretchy dresses! I’m finding my jeans really uncomfortable but not big enough to buy maternity jeans just yet. Thank you for your help xxx

About 17 weeks I had roundness to my bump and I bought larger leggings and one pair of maternity pant and one pair of maternity shorts I was given about 5 maternity shirts but usually just wore a larger top and it worked.

I’m nearly 14 weeks and have a slight bump, just finding my jeans are uncomfortable but don’t want to buy any maternity jeans just yet so going to stick to leggings and dresses I think xxx

Boohoo online is great! They have lots of lovely maternity dresses and great prices too! They have a huge range of maternity clothes xxx

That's awesome! Thank you so much

I can tell it’s your first pregnancy bcz I’m 7 wks and mine’s just as big, if not slightly bigger than yours. I remember hating what I looked like the first 3 mths of my pregnancy, bcz I looked like the bloated skinny girl, when I actually wanted to look pregnant! Lol I bought and wore my first pregnancy jeans at 5 mths.

I’m hoping I can last until 5 months to buy maternity jeans! I just feel really bloated all of the time and not skinny but not fat it’s so weird. Looking forward to having an obvious baby bump but just didn’t know if 13 weeks was too early to show as I have friends who didn’t show until 16/17 weeks but I suppose everyone is different xxx

I used to wear stretchy clothes so I didn't really need maternity wear, I bought some from about 20 weeks, but its really up to you and when its comfortable. With my third pregnancy I was in maternity wear from 10 weeks! You show sooner with more pregnancies.

I'm 26 weeks in my first pregnancy and it took 21 weeks for me to look like I was actually pregnant and not bloated. After that my belly has grown SO fast

My bump started around 20 weeks and I brought a few maternity pants but I'm 34 weeks now and decided to just get regular pants with really stretchy elastic so I can wear them after the baby comes and I brought a few loose tops that I can wear afterwards to. I'm a bit of a tight ass and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on clothes that I wont wear once I loose the weight.

With my first pregnancy I didn’t start showing much until after 20 weeks. Maternity clothes- 3rd trimester. You can get away with many non maternal clothes most of the time.

I'm 11 weeks and although I dont have a bump I've been soooo bloated I've got a right belly on me. Cant remember the last time I wore jeans I've been living in leggings, comfy shorts or dresses 🙈

I’m 24 weeks and I’ve only started to look pregnant in the last two weeks before that I just looked like I ate too much! But everyone is different. Xx

I started to get a small bump from around 14 weeks, but my jeans went tighter before 12 weeks, I went to my scan in maternity jeans 🤣

I got my bump around 5 weeks for my son and now (I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant) With my son I didn’t get maternity clothes until I was 27 weeks. Mainly stayed comfortable since I was huge by 30 weeks. Sweats, maternity bras, and stretchy shirts. My boyfriend kept insisting I wore cute clothes and dresses lol but the day I wore a dress for him, my son came less than 24 hours later
