When did your dogs know you were pregnant?

Hey guys! So I have two dogs (one female labrador/border collie named Bailey and one male maltese/mini poodle named Bombon) I’m just curious to hear your stories about being pregnant and having dogs. Did your dogs get jealous when you were pregnant? When did they notice? How did they react when the baby arrived?

I have two dogs, the clever one started acting super protective within weeks of me being pregnant, she would go crazy at anyone coming into the house. The other one is not as bright, but has now just started to be really protective too, barks at any noise when I’m home alone but is his usual self when my husband is here. They both lay on me more than normal, and wait outside my office door when I’m working. It’s sweet... don’t know what they’ll be like when the baby comes 🤷🏻‍♀️😍

That’s sweet! I’ve noticed Bombon is a bit more protective and I think Bailey is starting to notice too because she just sort of stares at me more haha

I know this sounds crazy but My cockpoo dog know I was pregnant before I know that I was but he has been a little jealous every time we talk about baby girl he will go through the trash or something like that I am 20 week ! So not sure how he will do when my baby girl get here

I read that dogs can smell your change in hormones but mine were pretty clueless lol

Mine just love using bump as a pillow but that's about their only change. They also love me being home more! Baby not due until end of next month so be interesting to see what they think then. They both love children so hopefully this will be no exception

I’m 19 weeks and have a male Labrador called Pluto 😂 he’s always been a boisterous boy but since I’ve been pregnant he treats me like I’ll break and guards me away from everyone 😂 he’s so loving I can’t wait to watch my baby boy and him grow together xx

We have two dogs. One doesn’t seem interested at all, but my cockapoo who is already really loving is super clingy ! She is literally following me around like a shadow

Mine is clueless lol but she’s not quite 4 months old yet! So it’s understandable. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ Hoping she’ll do good and adapt well with a new baby since she’s so young herself!

My female dog slept with my belly my entire pregnancy. After the baby was born she got up with me every time he woke up and would sit at my feet until he went back to bed. She was so nurturing. Our male couldn’t care less. He’s slept by the baby’s crib a couple times but that’s about it. Oddly enough, my son is drawn to our male dog and constantly hugs him lol.

I've been watching my dog closely for reactions 🤣 but so far she seems clueless 🙄 it's early days for me so no bump yet

My bullmastiff knew before I did I think!! 🤣 It was surreal...the German shepherds soon caught on too and wouldn’t leave my side ❤️x

My Frenchie knew before I did 😂😂 but she's intact so I don't know if that made a difference! I thought she was going into season the way she was acting the discovered she was responding to me 🤣

My mum's dog knew before I did about four days before I took a test so I was only a day or two late. My other half a mum and dad's dogs were gentle with me when I saw them after taking a test so again pretty straight away. ☺️🙃

My Japanese spitz knew before I did! She would not leave my side, even sitting right by the tub every time I showered. I was like why are you being so needy!!! Then I found out and it all made sense lol. She is protective by nature, always positioning herself between a doorway and my husband and I to keep watch

I have two German shepherd mix pups and they're so full of boundless energy, they would jump all over me. My bf had to chase them off. By 2nd trimester, I think they knew and would sniff me a lot and want cuddles. Now they sniff at my son in a cautious, gentle way. They're curious! My two cats checked him out abd were like, "Nope!". My elderly dog (Eskimo/pom mix) couldn't care less.

I don't have a dog but my mother-in-law's dog only liked me while I was pregnant! He was very cuddly and would lay his head on my belly way early in my pregnancy. He would just follow me around the house.

I have an 8 month old Blue Heeler and i’m at 13 weeks right now. He seems clueless about the pregnancy still trying to lay on my stomach on stomp all over my chest. He has picked up on the mood swings in the house though. He’s always “talked back” but he’s so much worse when i’m feeling overwhelmed and anxious. It feels more like having a mouthy teenager in the house than a puppy. I tell him to go to his room and he barks the whole way there, waits for me to come close the office door and barks at me the whole time until the door is closed and i’ve walked away.

My husband had our dog before I moved in, so she’s always been more affectionate with him and only likes me when I give her treats lol. But, when I was like 5 weeks pregnant, before I even knew, she was obsessed with me. Just constantly wanted me to pet her and she always had her face on my belly. She’s usually super wild, but she was really gentle while I was pregnant. When we got home from the hospital after having our baby, she went right back to not caring about me! Hahaha

I'm at 7 wks and I'd say they pretty much got it after my first bout of morning sickness in week 5. My Rhodesian Ridgeback has been very aware of me and tends to fuss over me a bit when I'm moody. My cat has been curling up with me at night, sleeping on my hips and pelvis.

I have a Labrador mix. And she knew before I did. She kept on staring at my stomach so I was about two weeks. My husband was creeped out so I took a test.

First sign was her licking my belly at about 4 weeks. She knew before I did. Now knows not to lay on my belly and we’re trying to introduce the name and baby when talking to her because she’s been our baby since we got her 🥰

My pug seemed to know before I did. He was much more cuddly than usual and by my side as much as he possibly could be. My bulldog is the same happy go lucky, lovey guy as always so I don’t know if he really knows something’s different or not.

Don’t think mine ever did know I was pregnant as she tried to climb and lie all over my belly right the way through 😂 she’s not a big fan of the baby crying but has her own little space out the way which she likes when it gets too much for her. She’s generally ok with the baby but sometimes doesn’t understand I can’t fuss her or play 24/7 which I try to make up for when the baby is asleep

Mine haven’t at 32 weeks 😂

Before I even knew I was prew I had food aversions and wasn't really eating much... Neither were either of my pups! As soon as I started eating more regularly they did too!

Idk if mine know! But, I know my lab Shadow will be great with the baby. He has always been around kids and is very gentle. Sophie our Pom I think it’s going to be a different story... she is the BOSS / PRINCESS / QUEEN of the house. We are going to slowly introduce her to baby clothes & smells before baby arrives. Worst case we will call a trainer for tips and guidance.

Omg ❤🥰 there little outfits 😂

My chihuahua knew within the first few weeks.. he got even more affectionate always cuddling up to me and my tummy. He also suddenly got way more protective and started barking at the front door which he never used to do.. it’s actually gotten bad to the point he bites strangers if they come to the front door or come near me if he’s off lead 🤦🏻‍♀️ My other dog sniffed and licked my belly which he has never done before! I’m sure they know 💓

I have a Belgian Shepherd and she stopped jumping up at me (which she usually does a lot) but carried on with everyone else. This was before I even got a bump. After baby arrived she howled the first 2 nights when baby cried but then stopped. She does get a bit jealous but it isn't as bad as I thought.

My husky knew before I did! He started to get protective on walks and I was so confused until I took the test. Im 37 weeks and I dont think my lab mix even knows. She still tries to sit in my lap and lay on me and has not changed at all!

The dogs in my building knew by 3 months. Super shy dogs got super friendly

My pup notice after 6 months she would always stay near me follow me around and place her head on my belly when my son would kick and it would make him clam down and now where ever he is she wants to be and she lays in my room near my son so she can be near him they are best friends now that he is born

I think somewhere around 28weeks our4yo Wheaten figured something is up. Also have a 9mo old Wheaten who is too much of a baby himself to notice. Our cat knew before I took a test.

I would say the first or second day I found out probably sooner cause she was very cuddley and would never leave my side

I knew at 5 weeks but my German Sheppard started getting even more protective over me around week 7. She rest her head on my belly and won't let anyone but my significant other touch me and even then she's very observant and cautious

My dog knew straight away, she started getting super clingy. Every time I mention the baby she just side eyes me like "I'm your baby" 🤣🤣

I have a Bailey too! Mine knew before I did I think. Bailey used to jump up when I came in but stopped doing it randomly then I found out I was pregnant

I have two dogs. Make black lab and male beagle. Oddly enough my black lab knew when I was ovulating because he kept trying to hump me. They both follow me around all the time, especially when I had food, which being pregnant I often did 😂 we snuggled a lot and they enjoyed it but once my belly got too big I could tell they felt a little pushed away since we didn’t fit on the couch anymore. But they were very curious and gentle when my son was born. They know he’s special 🥰

My dogs have always been clingy. But I knew I was going to deliver My son when my 2 oldest dogs would not leave my side no matter what. & cried terribly when I locked them out of the bathroom/bedroom.

I'm sure my dog knew even before we did! Me and partner were play fighting and our dog all of a sudden got protective and growled at my partner!! She had never done that before and usually favours him. We found out we were expecting the weekend after this happened! Im due next week and our dog wont leave my side!

They can smell the hormones change in your pee. It’s how I knew I was pregnant! Two weeks in lol.

I don't think my dog knew until the baby was born 😂 he acted completely normal until we brought my son home. Then he got jealous

I wrote about my one dog who very clearly knew something was up before I did, but I’m pretty sure my other girl is in for a very rude awakening.

It's funny how some seem so clueless and others pick up on it instantly. My cat knew from about 5-6 weeks, she decided she was my new bodyguard lol

My 8 year old lab has known since about 6 weeks I think... he hates the laminate floor but will ALWAYS come and lie on the floor in front of me when I’m sat in the arm chair. My 2 year old lab... she’s oblivious. As needy as usual 😂

Our big dog knew about 10wks in, he lays with his head as close as possible to my bump. The other dog lays under my bump across my legs. So no quick get always for me 😂.

I met a dog yesterday ( I don't have a dog( and he could immediately tell I was pregnant as soon as I walked in he came straight up to me, and didn't leave my side the whole time I was there

We got a puppy just a month before i had my now 6 month old and i have a picture of the dog laying it head on my belly even when we brought our daughter home the dog was all about the baby. She cried the dog was right their even for a puppy she does great with the baby

My dog knew before I even knew 😂 she was staying at my mom's for awhile cause we we're moving apartments and couldn't bring her right away, she was pretty salty when I visited for Christmas (also her bday) she only got excited to see my husband and wouldn't jump on me I think she just got sad cause she thought she was being replaced cause she went back to her normal self after we brought her home got super anxious towards the end tho but she loves this baby more than anything she'll lay next to him by the co-sleeping bassinet and just watch him, or if she's in the living room and hears him cry she runs to the bedroom 🥺 she knows her limits tho and doesn't lick him without permission

My Labrador was such a daddy’s girl but right before I got my positive test she was all about me and that hasn’t changed yet

Mine have just got very clingy. Not sure if it's because I'm home and in the house so much more now or they know something is going on. I'm 39+3 and they do like using my bump as a pillow but they like lying in my lap anyway. I'm not allowed to go for a wee without supervision though. They follow me around the house!

My dog knew before I did! I kept wondering why she was being even more clingy than usual! I couldn’t move a single inch without her following me. Although she wouldn’t jump up on the sofa and sit with me like she usually would. Did a test and I was pregnant! 16 weeks later and she’s still stuck to my side like a little weirdo! 🤣 oh she now hates my partner!

my parents/our family dog hasn't noticed yet I don't think d

In my first pregnancy the dog knew before we did. He would sit by me and snuggle into my tummy. Also act like a weirdo if anyone went near me 😂

My dog was able to tell that my mother was pregnant 13 years ago and I was so excited for her to notice my pregnancy but she never did. I think it’s her old age and the fact that she is not deaf. 😭
