This is a fairly new practice that has just gotten out of hand. Gendered baby clothes didn’t start until mid-early 1900s and before that it was about what matched baby’s hair/eye color (pinks for brown hair/brown eyes and blues for blond hair/blue eyes). Then a little later on, someone decides that blue is a daintier color thus should be for girls, while pink is closer to red (a powerful color) thus should be for boys. Yeah, go figure. Then sometime around 1950?60?, someone else said “Ehhhhh, red is more romantic. So let’s make pink for girls, because women are emotional. And let’s make blue for boys and just convince people that they should put their boys in blue. Well…it’s working for most of the world. Especially those who are obsessed with gender reveals. The overarching issue, I believe, is the general acceptance of gender roles. Too many citizens of our world accept the societally norms gender roles down to the color and style of their children’s clothing. 🤷🏾♀️
Yes, it's absolutely ridiculous. The sad thing is a lot of people believe that's how it should be... At least there are online brands that have gone past that.
