Partners allowed for entirety of labour/birth in ALL hospitals.

I just wanted to post this in here because I feel it’s so incredibly important. I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant and my partner hasn’t been allowed to any of my scans. The thought of him missing the birth fills me with absolute dread and fear and I can’t wrap my head around the rules at this stage. It’s such an important petition and I encourage everyone to sign 🥰 it only takes 2 seconds and it could make a difference: https://www.change.org/p/partners-allowed-for-entirety-of-labour-birth-in-all-hospitals

Not 100% related, but has anyone considered having a home birth?...i laughed when my midwife suggested it but I went through with it in the end..I was able to have my mum and my partner with me throughout the whole experience, from the very first contraction....although the restrictions in hospitals are awful, they are to keep staff, mothers and babies safe 😕

I’ve said from day 1 that if there are still restrictions I’d love a home birth and that’s always been my plan. Unfortunately I realised 2 days ago that they’ve suspended them on the nhs in my area 😞 I think that’s part of the reason why I’ve become focused on something being done about the restrictions because I feel like all my choices are being taken away. I’ve looked into private home births briefly but they look the be in the region on £4500 which I can’t afford. I’ll keep researching though ☺️ a home birth would be ideal in these circumstances. Was it your first baby? X

If you follow @doulajesscelestine on Instagram she is regularly updating a spreadsheet of all trusts, things are changing and some have really reduced their restrictions which is great. She also has letter templates to send to your head of midwifery, hospital PALS, and local MP - sometimes you need to put the pressure on directly as well as the petition. I sent it off and have had replies from all 3 already.

Click the link in her bio, there’s great info and the letter templates like I said. She also posts when trusts change their restrictions.

I had my daughter two weeks ago at addenbrookes and they’re allowing partners in scans now and with you throughout the birth. My partner wasn’t allowed in while I was assessed and then was with me until we was discharged. I’ve read a lot of hospitals have relaxed the maternity rules with partners now. X

Ah I’m so sorry! I can totally relate how it makes such an exciting time, such an anxious time. My partner didn’t get to come to any antenatal care or scans, and was really worried especially towards the end. But it wasn’t as bad as I thought.. Hope it all changes for you very soon! 🤞🏼X

They’ve not relaxed it near me. Nothing’s changed since the main lockdown 😔 they were going to relax it In august and then they changed their minds and it’s not been mentioned since. Fingers crossed things will change Over the coming months so there’s some consistency 😊 xx

Signed and shared! My local hospital has currently closed their maternity ward and has forced many women to be alone in a place where they didn’t want to be! Let’s hope this petition gets an announcement in the next speech for maternity rights!
