If he’s really windy you could try swapping him onto a comfort milk? Made a big difference to my nephew

Congratulations on your little one, your baba is going through the fourth trimester this is completely normal newborn behaviour, your heartbeat, warmth and smell give him comfort and being close to you makes him feel safe. Also babies tummy/gut is immature and they need to learn how too poop so it’s possibly that. Have you tried bedsharing if following safe sleep 7 it can be done xx

I don’t know from the gripe water side of things, but I think you need to have a conversation with your MIL and maybe you need to show her how much you really can pat a baby without causing them any discomforts . Babies have to be burped properly after and sometimes even during every feed especially at such young age because they don’t have the ability to burp themselves. Also keeping baby upright after a feed for at least 20minutes can help with wind too. Gripe water or infacol will help in the short term but proper winding (if it is just trapped gas) will work better long term. Best of luck.
