Failure to Dialate

I am now 2 months PP but occasionally replay my birthing experience. For reference: I was 41 weeks and had to be induced, was in the hospital a total of 1 week, spent 5 days natural laboring, and got the epidural day 5 right before my c section. I started my induction on the miso pills and by day 4 had taken the maximum dosage increases recommend. My induction methods were the miso pills, the cook balloon for the entire day and got the maximum dosage for Pitocin. Each day I effaced and was 100% effaced by the night of day 5, but I was stuck in early labor the ENTIRE 5 days at 3cm dilated days 1-3 & 4cm after my water was broken and waters were broke for almost 24 hours before urgent c section. I held out for 5 days because of “my body and baby know & when my body is ready it’ll happen” & she never was! Since my body stalled at 4cm dilated and 100% effaced, my baby didn’t feel the urge to go into my canal and I had my c section when I made 42 weeks! Do any mamas have an experience similar to mine with single or multiple pregnancies?? I’m left wondering if it was a fluke, or if it’ll happen with future pregnancies! *All in all, I was very happy with my c section/recovery & my birthing experience*

Some people stall and never dilate past a certain point. I know several people like this

Yup one that I know has 3 kids and after she failed to dilate the first time I think she might have tried the 2nd time and same thing and 3rd was a scheduled csection

Do you know if they had it for multiple pregnancies??

Mine was very similar to yours, I was induced at 41+6 and had a emergency c section at 42+2, it was a very long 4 days 😩 I think, if I was to have another baby I would opt for a c section straight away. I feel that if my body wouldn’t dilate the first time, surely it wouldn’t do it again. X

I have no reason to why either, but both my mum and aunt had to have c sections because they didn’t dilate. They say it isn’t hereditary but it’s a big coincidence.

I was 41+4 & has c section at exactly 42 weeks so yeah very close! Very long indeed!! It was more mentally exhausting being in the hospital so long tbh. I’m holding out for a vbac for baby #2 and if the same thing happens AGAIN, then definitely will be scheduling my csection. I’m still holding out hope because they didn’t have a reason as to why I couldn’t so just taking it as a fluke atm 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

I got induced, waters broke at 2cm, I dilated another 2cm over the next 11hrs so 4cm in total..ended up with emergency c section because my daughter was getting distressed being out of water and I stopped dilating any further. It still bothers me. My mom always tells people its because I "couldn't get her out" which really pisses me off. I know she doesn't mean it the way I'm taking it but it seriously winds me up. Makes it sound like I was incapable of giving birth to my own daughter when if I hadn't of been induced and just left to ride things out then I probably would of been able to...

Sorry to hear! Did everything go well after that? & I know the feeling!! Totally understand your anger. It’s like your body did all this work growing them & fails to push them out. I felt this way too but just know IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT MAMA!! It really is out of control & maybe our bodies weren’t ready & we could’ve waited it out sure, but we did what was best for our babies! Hope that brings you some comfort💕 side note, I would be v annoyed w/your mom also! It’s one thing to say it to you only but telling everyone that is insensitive, and unnecessary & I’d say just that every time it’s brought up. In front of whoever 🤷🏾‍♀️

I just had this SAME experience 2 days ago when I had my c section. I was induced on Wednesday night. They started by inserting cervadil Wednesday night and left it in for 12 hours, then switched me to miso pills for about another 12 hours. After that, I was dilated to a 3. The pitocin only brought me to a 4.5 cm dilated when I started getting AWFUL contractions 1 minute apart however, I couldn’t dilate past 4.5 cm. The doctor told me he didn’t think it would be smart to try to wait it out any longer and we went with a C section. Turns out my baby had his cord wrapped and was also 9lbs. I lost almost double the normal amount of blood & it could’ve been way worse if I gave birth naturally. I am glad my doctor opted to go with a c section for our safety!!
