Premature baby experiences

Our little girlie was born on 8th December at 29+2 weeks weighing 3lbs due to me being poorly with pre eclampsia and type 1 diabetes. Lots of ups and downs already any advice or experiences on what the next few months will bring would be much appreciated 💕

Aww what a little beauty. How are you both doing? My baby girl was born at 33 weeks plus 3 days and weighed 4lb 2. She was in isolation due to testing positive for covid, intensive care then the special care baby unit for 3 weeks before I could take her home. It was heart breaking seeing her like that. I had covid at 33 weeks and gestational diabetes so I think that's what prompted my little cherub to come early. She's nearly a month on Sept 11th and doing well. 🥰

The next few months will be the tough bit. I have been through this myself, the preeclampsia bit. Diagnosed at 33 weeks, hospitalized, baby girl born at 35 weeks exactly through a C-section. But remember one thing and remember this well. These younger, premature babies generally grow up to be the toughest cookies & will become the strongest people in the future, God willing. Trust your docs, and if you cannot, ask to get a second opinion by a professional, and get some sleep!!!!!! And make sure you have people around you - a support system if you will - to take care of YOU mentally. Take advantage of the hospital facilities, be proactive, we pay taxes for this reason. Talking from experience, I thought my beautiful baby would not be as strong as other girls. In reality, 19 months after leaving the hospital, she is still alive and healthy. Stay positive sister, you got this.

Hello, mine might to be relevant but I went to 37 weeks but baby only weighed 4 pound 8. So technically he was a prem baby. His 4 months old now. & he is so smart. He try’s to sit up on his own. He lifts he own head. He rolls over. He amazes me everyday & his cone so far. But congratulations ❤️

Sorry the question wasn’t directed at me but I know someone who had preeclampsia twice in her pregnancies and her doctor told her if she gets pregnant a 3rd time he’d recommend termination as she (the mother) would probably die. My professor at the hospital told me that each pregnancy is a strain on the mother’s heart so you should think about yourself first and foremost when it comes to this. My husband wants a second child and I have said no loud and clear. It sounds grim but this is the main reason I wont ever be getting pregnant again. Going through seeing my baby in NICU is something I cannot handle again.

Were you nervous to get pregnant again after having preeclampsia the first time? I was put on bedrest in the hospital for a month until I had my son at 33 weeks. My doc thinks it’s very likely I will get it again but I can’t imagine being stuck in the hospital for a long time without my son. Also, I don’t know if I can go through NICU life again. Just looking for your perspective. Thanks!

I had my daughter at 29+4. She’s beautiful! Be patient with her and yourself. She’s right where she needs to be at this point, it’s tough though. Try to stay positive ❤️

My baby was born at 30 weeks on 14th November and is in NICU now she was only 2lb 6oz so your little one is a really healthy weight!! They are so strong, more than we can imagine! I am struggling a bit as just want her home, it is hard having a premmie but the way I see it is we get to spend more time with them as they are here early! My advice is take everyday as it comes don’t put any pressure on yourself as they will come home when they are ready! Let me know if you want to chat as I am in the same boat and know how hard it can be! Congrats Xx

My little girl was born 14 weeks early and honestly it is such a rollercoaster ride but let me tell you those babies are so tough. Now she’s almost 3 and tough as nails! Literally got to take each day as it comes rather than countdown days. It’s going to be hard but there’s light at the end of the tunnel mama x

Had a preemie due to severe preeclampsia at 35 weeks, she is absolutely fine now {besides weighing only 8-9 kegs at 18 months), just remember that girls do better than boys and if the docs at the hospital are happy, there is usually no real reason to be worried 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 sending you lots of prayers and love, hang in there mama! Baby girl needs you to be strong so that she can thrive and prosper!!!

Congrats!! ❤️ My son was born 5 weeks early because I was preeclampsic and my BP was through the roof. They were afraid I was either gonna have a stroke or seize. He was 4 lbs 11 ounces at birth and will be 3 months in a couple days. He’s now 11 lbs. 💪🏼. #preemiestrong

I've had 4 preemies. Don't worry. Maybe a lot if dr appoints when baby comes home. My smallest was 3lbs too. She couldn't make any noise above the sqeak of a mouse. My 5lb-er didn't cry at all and she was 33wks. It should be ok. Maybe a lot of Dr's apps for a bit when baby comes home. That was a bit exhausting. Your baby is beautiful. 😍

My little was born at 23 weeks. She was 1lb 2oz and then dropped to 14oz. We spent 93 days in NICU. The best advice I can give is, kangaroo hold every second you get. Talk to your daughter just about anything to let her know you’re there. Stay positive because these little ones are so strong! They told me the whole NICU time that once you’re out, it feels like it went so fast. I had a hard time believing that during our stay but now I look back, and it feels like we spent no time there. Look to the future mama and love that little girl.❤️

My daughter was born at 29+2 after I went into spontaneous labour. She was 3lb 3oz. She stayed in NICU for 60 days, but she’s now a year old, she’s above the 99.6th centile, and you’d have no idea about any of this if you saw her. We made some really great friends with some of the other parents who were there at the time, and still see them a lot. They’re a good source of support if you can find anyone you get in with. The hospital we were in had a counsellor that both me and my husband spoke to, and that was really useful. Make sure you let yourself have days off if you need it. Going back and forth to NICU every day is exhausting, and your body has been through so much, don’t feel bad for looking after yourself too. Even after discharge, we were seen weekly by an outreach midwife for a while, and she’s still seen by a paediatrician and physio, so you’ll get lots of support when you go home. Message me if you have more questions and congratulations! x

My water broke at 33 weeks 4 days. I had to have emergency c-section due to baby being breech. We spent a month in the NICU, he wasn't eating quite the way they wanted him to and the started having spells while asleep. He'd stop breathing for a few seconds, they never had to do anything, he would start again on his own, but very scary as a first time mom. Trust in your doctor and nurses! Congratulations on a beautiful baby and prayers to you momma!

My son is was born at 25+5 in July. He’s still in the NICU but I’ve seen plenty of babies born at 29 and up and they do great. There will be ups and downs but get to know your nurses and respiratory therapists. They will be a big support and help advocate for your baby. I’m here if you ever want to talk. CONGRATULATIONS 🎊🎉
