Any other baby still in purées/mashed food?

My son is 9 months and 2 weeks and still eats mostly mashed foods because I have crazy anxiety of offering him soft pieces. He choked once at 7 months and I needed to help him and since that day I can’t feed him soft food without freak out. We tried again at 8 months and he looked like he was chewing but in the end he choked again and projectile vomited. This week I started offering small pieces of scrambled eggs and he is so interested 🥺 he started gagging and I decided to stop even though I know is normal. I offer him a variety of foods, he loves all the flavors and eats very well but I know how important it is for him to learn how to chew. Im just feeling like Im failing my son for not exploring more BLW cuts. Anyone else in the same boat? What are the softest things I can give to him? I was thinking about giving him some tilapia whenever hubby gets home so at least Im not by myself 😮‍💨

You can give him more foods that are soft but requires chewing like bananas avocado beans my son loves squash and pasta

I would actually try resistive food teethers which he won’t be able to break, because they’ll still help him map his mouth and work on chewing skills. A mango pit, corn cob, chicken drumstick with most of the meat removed are some examples. Solid Starts has some helpful info. https://solidstarts.com/why-we-love-resistive-sticks-of-foods-for-babies-starting-solids/ Sometimes the foods we think will be easiest are foods that cause a lot of gagging.

We do a combination of resistive and soft foods and still offer his regular pureed food to be sure he is getting his calories. That said, my little guy has HIE, and he has been in speech therapy and done swallow studies because he had delayed suckling and swallowing responses.

Something that taught him how to chew was boiled cut up potatoes and sweet potato’s. Bananas and avocado are a good next step because they are a bit more solid and even when it looked like my son was choking he would be able to cough it out pretty quick

Same girl my son is also 9 months and I am terrified. He also chocked once and I’m just so afraid and I feel like I’m failing him. He still has no teeth yet, I’m hoping once they come in that it will make it easier for him to chew. He is so curious and wants to try foods but I stick to purée still. Sometimes I’ll offer toast with hummus, butter, or avocado but he struggles to chew.

Girl don’t sweat as long as your baby could chew and eat food by 1 years old Brush that anxiety away you are doing great! Give yourself grace😃

We do purees still and solid snacks. I offer him solid foods but once he touches them and they are squishy he gets grossed out and won't eat it 🤣
