It's advised to wait that long because you put yourself at higher risk for uterine rupture, which is an emergency. Just wait and enjoy the baby you literally just had.
Yeah, after a c section, you should really wait/listen to your doctor. They sliced open your uterus, and that needs time to heal/get strong again to avoid rupture. Your pelvic floor is also strained from your pregnancy and needs time to recover to avoid rough consequences like prolapse, long-term pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, etc. I'm sure there are some c section folks who have gotten pregnant again, and it has worked out ok. But you should know there are significant risks.
For vaginal birth, my midwife said I could try as soon as I felt ready. But 18 months for a c-section.
The outcomes are better for you and baby if you wait a year
Besides letting your uterus heal there is one other very important thing to know if you struggle with fertility. Are you exclusively breastfeeding? You won’t start ovulating again until you have less prolactin in your system. I’m pumping and formula feeding and my period just started yesterday. My baby turns 7 weeks tomorrow. I was honestly disappointed because it means my prolactin is low. But it’s something you need to know if you’ve struggled with fertility. I’ve known women who EBF who didn’t get their period again for a full 2 years because the prolactin stopped their ovulation.
@Karin can I ask if you have a low supply? Is that why you're combo feeding?
@Karin I'm not breast feeding and I already have a prolactinoma so was a miracle I got pregnant this time round, let alone be able to do it again. However if I could do it again I would like them close together and I'm not getting any younger - pregnancy is hard as a geriatric 😂
I was told minimum is a year vaginal birth. Ideally is 2 years.
