Falling off bed

My baby fell off the bed again. I feel absolutely devastated. When I leave my baby on the bed she’s completely occupied playing with toys. Then I literally turn around for 5 seconds and she falls off. I’m so stupid and should know better since this happened a few months earlier. This time she fell down in the sitting position and landed on her butt. She cried for a minute and is fine now. I checked her bones and tailbone and it doesn’t hurt her to touch. Do you think it’ll bother her down the road? I asked my mom if I should go to ER and she said as long as she stopped crying and isn’t hurting she’s okay.

@Azu oh yeah thanks for that useful information

I didn't know how old your baby is, how tall your bed is so none of us can say.. if your worried it's always better safe than sorry or you can at least call the after hours nurse line. However yes it does happen very quickly and you should never leave your baby unattended in an area not safe not even for a second. Try playpen for a safe area so you can step away. Hope she is ok and doing well

Baby should be fine. If no signs of distress pretty sure baby just had a tumble off the bed. However, don’t turn your back on her anymore! Might be time to just move her around with you unless you can permanently watch her when on the bed and high surfaces

Your baby is fine these comments are so dramatic 😂

I’m sure she’s fine, but for the future what I do so my baby doesn’t fall off is I roll the comforter into a big log for the feet portion and then put pillows around the sides because he’s not strong enough to move them so he can’t roll off :)

babies heal fast and are very flexible! how old is your baby?

because saying you shouldn’t have turned around is so helpful! 🙃 these things happen. the first time or two my baby fell off the bed it just broke my heart but he was totally okay and yours should be too. the suggestions to try a rolled comforter on the edge and mention it to the doctor if it will make you feel better are great :) stay strong. you’re doing great

@Rummy she’s 10 months

Mama you’re not the first or last that this happens too your feelings are valid and it’s literally a thing u turn even for a second and they get into the worst situations. If you feel concerned call your doctor or go to the hospital just to get it out of your head and you don’t give urself a headache:)

I recommend keeping a light travel crib in your room to place your baby or young toddler in when you are doing something where you are going to look away for even a second. It’s safe, you can put toys in it, and it allows for to turn your back to put clothes away or whatever.

@Kassandra Martinez thank you for the kind words. I already feel so bad as it is and my heart is hurting. I came to strangers for advice because my own family is making me feel like a bad mom.

Also don’t let any mean comments get you down bc if I’m being honest no one has the room to talk in judging you bc it can absolutely happen to anyone we try our best and it can still happen

Just place her on the floor to play until you get back to the room or put her in crib/playpen. My LO is 6 months and is crawling, I can’t leave her on the bed either! Good luck in future.

Don’t feel bad, babies move SO fast! Just continue to check that she is moving comfortably. If she isn’t moving a body part, I’d take her to the doctor.

@Azu no shit Sherlock

Aww mama Don’t beat ur self up about it , babies are so fast and move all the time in a blink of an eye so many babies fall off of places all the time , as long as she’s not crying continuously she should be fine nothing ER wise but definitely take her in for a check up in the morning just to make sure 🫶🏽

You are doing just fine mama, as long as you baby cried for a bit and then stopped and nothing changed in her behavior she is safe and healthy . And ready to play on the floor freely , they grow so quickly, so enjoy each moment.

Hey the only way they will learn is for them to bump their heads once or twice .

Oh darling, this happens to lots of people, if she’s not fussing after a bit she should be fine. My kid had a really big fall at 18 months off the counter, he’s always been a climber n always will. It’s burned into my brain, it’s like I watched it happen in slow motion and didn’t catch him in time. I think about it often and always feel guilty. He’s almost 5 now! A few “bad mom” moments are going to happen, don’t let it out shine all your brilliant mom moments. How’s she doing this morning? And how are you holding up? Your poor heart ❤️
