Growth chart should I be worried being on the top line?

My midwife mentioned that if I plot on the line again next time that I will go for a growth scan and maybe induced earlier? Has this happened to anyone and is it something I should be worried about?

Bump measurements can be really off so I wouldn’t worry. If you have a scan and it confirms baby is measuring big then they will probably monitor you more closely so regular scans and give you information on the next steps x

My midwife measured my bump on a high centile so I went for my growth scan and my son was weighing too SMALL😂 they’re so off as a measurement unless it’s medically necessary I would choose no to an induction if I was asked to have another

Fundal height isn’t a very accurate measure of babys growth/size so I really wouldn’t worry. They told me you should be (ideally) measuring around the same gestation you are, so 30 weeks would be 30cm for example. Your measurements look very normal to me! x

I had a 4D scan last week and the doctor measured the baby and said it’s underweight now it over - so confused 😅

@Summer there’s no way of knowing 100% the weight of baby unless they ever find technology to look inside the womb itself 😂 don’t panic it happens to lots of women. You don’t need to agree to an induction just because of their predictions of weight but you can also agree if that’s what you feel most comfortable with!x

They're really inaccurate. My son was measured and predicted to be over 13lb's at birth. They tried to push me to get a c section and then an induction and were filling me full of horror stories, it was awful. I ended up going into labour naturally at just under 39 weeks and he was 9lb 9oz, which is still big yeah, but nowhere near this nearly stone baby I was told was coming out of me🥲 Just take them with a pinch of salt, do a bit of research on inductions and do whatever you feel is best!😊

Ive just come back from a growth scan. Early on i was measuring on fundal measurements big, was sent for growth scan at 29 weeks and baby was 3lb.5 and wasnt big. Ive just been for my 33wk scan and baby is 5lb. Ive just asked for estimated weight and theyve told me 7lb but can tell me more at 37 wk scan.

Bump measurements really need to be stopped, think of all the women who have cryptic pregnancy and have no bump at all and give birth to a healthy baby, my bump was measuring big all throughout and I got sent for growth scans telling me oh she's 8lb (at 34 weeks) got induced at 39 weeks for her to born 7lb so the induction wasn't necessary, just remember you can go for the scans etc but you can refuse induction early, aslong as your baby is healthy and growing I wouldn't worry

I was like this, and never got send for a scan, they were confident it was all water by feeling where baby was

i feel as though when they measure it might be big bc of everything in with the baby like the fluid and baby it’s self. I always hear stories of doctors trying to push c sections so hard and telling women they’re going to have a big baby and horror stories about it when the baby comes out it’s like 7-9 pounds which is really a normal healthy baby. I kinda feel like they want c sections bc it cost way more and makes the hospital way more money

It's more about consistency. So if your baby is consistently large this is a lot less concerning than if there was suddenly a huge jump in centiles whether bigger or smaller.

I was actually measured by the midwife, referred for a growth scan and she was virtually bang on. He is growing big at 33 weeks and I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. So it’s always best to be safe and have extra scans if needed!

I had my 28 week appt today and was also plotted on the top line however she wasn’t concerned and said everything is perfect 🤷🏼‍♀️ They’re just guesstimates aren’t they x

This happened to me but I had my section at 40+2 as didn’t want to be scaremongered into induction . Baby was born 9lbs 9oz, and we were both fine post section

They are inaccurate as are scans. My bump was measuring small, the scan said my baby was small and that her legs were measuring way too small but she was born healthy with normal sized legs at 7lb after all the tests and worry 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 x

They are never accurate even if two midwives measure it at same time 😂 i was sent twice for it and it was going good ❤️ dont worry.

Any predictions of baby’s size are just a massive guess anyways, they aren’t very reliable but if you do get a growth scan I think that would be good because I went at 28 weeks for my bump measurement, was measuring big and the midwife said though they don’t usually do it first measuring she was going to book me in for a scan to make more accurate measurements and turns out my bump is a lot bigger then baby because I have extra amniotic fluid which lead to me being diagnosed with Gestational diabetes. No way saying this will happen to you however just an example the scan enables you and them to see if it’s the baby that’s large or the bump so if u have to go for a scan don’t worry, it’s also just another reason to see baby 🥰

They can be inaccurate but they underestimated my first little boy said he would be 9 to 9 1/2 pound he was born 40 weeks weighing 10 pound 2 and I was never offered induction. With my second I had growth scans because of my first and checked for gestational diabetes and was fine had my daughter 38 weeks and she was 8 pound 6. Pretty much around the centile she had been plotting. My larger baby was easier they say larger help themselves out if your pelvis is big enough. I also used water which I think helped with no tearing first time round as didn't for second and had a small tear but I also have quick births.

When I was measured AND had a growth scan, then estimated baby was going to be around 7lb. In the end she came 3 days after due date at 5lb 11. They have no real idea with these! I'm sure a lot are accurate but also a lot not. If you don't want to be induced and this is the only reason they are pushing it, I wouldn't bother.

Also don’t let them scare monger you into being induced - it is YOUR body and you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to x

I was measuring on this line too and they sent me for growth scans as said if I went to term she would be a big baby....10lb or more. Wanted to induce me and I said no. I went to 41+1 and she was born at 8lb. If they had induced me when they wanted she would have been small so I'm glad I said no. Xx
