Dating scan.

Just had my 12 week scan. They gave me a due date however, due to baby's head down positioning and constant wriggling the ultrasound technician only managed to get one rough measurement. Will they stick with that due date all the way through now or could it change at my 20 week scan?

Did they reschedule you for another scan?or is your next one at 20 weeks?x

No reschedule. They told me they couldn't do any of the tests and I'd have to pay privately to get them. Then, that they'd see me at my 20 week scan 🙄 x

@Lucy that seems unfair? Maybe phone your midwife and explain what has happened as they may want measurements/results for your next appointment. In regards to the due date I would imagine it’ll be what ever they’ve given you I doubt it’d change much at the 20 week scan even if it did x

@Lucy I would call you if I were you and complain. I went in on Wednesday when I believed myself to be 12 weeks exactly and they told me I was 10+6 so unable to do testing and rebooked me in for 2 weeks later

The CRL should be accurate I imagine it’s the NT measurement for screening they couldn’t achieve as this needs to be horizontal. Your due date won’t change. You can have a NIPT privately as it’s unlikely they will rebook you again x

They can’t date a scan at 20 weeks, so I imagine you’ll keep the due date you were given unless you’re successful in a re-scan. Remember a due date is only an estimate and baby could come two weeks before or two weeks after so try not to get caught up on the date. Hope you enjoyed seeing your baby. Mine was a wriggler too 😊

@Lucy I had a similar situation today (couldn't get accurate measurements or nuchal translucency) and they've booked me to come back in 4 weeks to try to get a more accurate EDD then book 20 week scan. It's also not right that they've said they can't do any tests, they may not be able to do the combined test after 14 weeks but they can do the quadruple test for downs syndrome at least (that's what they've offered me) so I would query that with your midwife team x

Just seen you’re really local to me - was this at Arrowe Park? You could also reach out to the Maternity Voices Partnership maybe to see if they have any advice, contact details here: https://www.wuth.nhs.uk/maternity-services/wirral-maternity-voices/

@Lucy if they couldn't give a due date they should reschedule for 1 week later. And presuming you want screening, if they can't complete the NT they should offer you the QUAD test which is just a blood test from you x

@Lucy they normally reschedule if they can’t get all the tests. I would look into this and ask for a second one

Thanks for all your messages. They have offered me the blood test, but not sure whether I take the form with me to the 16 week appointment or if I have to go to the GP to do it. My partner and I have chatted and we've both agreed that regardless if the test results it wouldn't make a difference but we'd like to know to prepare if there was something. Disappointing that I wasn't offered another scan, however I'm wondering if the ultrasound technician was confident in her one measurement xx

@Matilda yeah I'm at Arrowe Park. Thanks for the link. X
