Induction with propess pessary

Did anyone else have a strong reaction to their induction with the propess pessary? I was induced back in January and reacted very quickly to the very first pessary that was inserted. Within two hours I was contracting 7 times in every 10 minute window. Baby girl arrived happy and healthy, just interested to know if anyone else had experienced this as you more often hear about induction taking a long time or requiring a second pessary, gel, drip etc.

I had the propess pessary at 8am on the Saturday and my little girl was born at 6:30am on the Sunday. I was really surprised how fast it worked as I had heard lots of stories about it taking days to work

I wish! I had the first pessary 5.45pm on the Sunday, Gel 6pm on the Monday, waters broken 8.30am on the Tuesday and my son was born 4.52am on the Wednesday! Felt like a lifetime!! X

Pessary didn’t touch the sides for me both pregnancies. The gel however 🥴🙈 worked within 30 mins and had him a few hrs later

It's so fascinating how different induction methods have such a different impact on different people! The pessary did absolutely nothing for me, and neither did 3 gels😅 4 days later, I finally got the balloon inserted and that got me to a point where I could have my waters broken and be given the drip, but had to wait 2 days for that due to staff shortages. Baby girl finally arrived over a week after I had the pessary inserted via emergency c-section. My induction experience was so disheartening and traumatic, but I love hearing that these methods are very successful for some people🩷

I had mine put in around 12pm on the Monday and started contracting around 5pm, but as they couldn’t feel LG moving the following morning they took it out and had to wait around until early hours of Friday before I could have my waters broken. I think if they’d left it in I would have delivered on the Tuesday (LG always had a slow morning lol) but there we go!

I started contracting within half hour of the gel. Continued for 12 hours but only dilated to 2cm. Then was put on the drip for 14 hours and only dilated to 6cm despite having severe contractions. Baby was still really high up in the cervix so we opted for a c section after 26 hours of labour and failure to progress. I'd never let them talk me in to an induction again. Was an absolute shit show for me!

I had it all the pessary , the balloon and drip nothing worked ended up having an emergency c section 3 days later x

I would say I had an over-reaction to it though - not a positive experience unfortunately. All the midwives were saying I was having too many contractions and they were incredibly strong. I was injected twice to try and slow them but it didn’t work. I was determined to give birth naturally but after 12 hours of 7 contractions in every 10 minutes I was still only 5cm dilated so they recommended c-section. Just wondered if anyone had ‘over-reacted’ like me xx

Sorry for misinterpreting your comment! I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad experience, that sounds like it would have been incredibly traumatic. In terms of hyperstimulating, I had a similar reaction to you but to the hormone drip (rather than the pessary) when I was put on it. It was incredibly painful and so scary. As I was having such strong contractions, the midwifes ended up turning off the drip, and I continued to have these strong contractions throughout the night, but come morning I hadn't dilated any further, and it was so disheartening. I also desperately wanted to give birth vaginally, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be. I think that in itself can be a lot to deal with, without the pain of hyperstimulating followed by having to recover from your c-section. I hope you're doing okay❤️

@Charlotte no not at all! And sorry I didn’t mean to sound like I was dismissing anyone else’s stories, I just haven’t come across anyone else like me (yet!) It sounds like we had a similar experience (just me to the pessary and you to the drip). I can’t remember what time they took the pessary out but it was only a few hours after it went in and I too continued to have those strong and frequent contractions even after the injections and up until the c-section. I think I have downplayed how scary it all was because I always think there must be someone who has it worse, but it is frightening, especially when you know it’s all artificial. You are right that it’s all a lot to recover from, mentally as well as physically! I’m sorry that you had a bad experience too. If I was ever in a scenario in the future where I needed to be induced I think I would go straight to c-section instead now. Even though recovery is tough, my uterus is too sensitive for the induction process 😅

@Charlotte sorry my reply got too long. Im doing much better now, I hope you’re ok too 🥰

I reacted strongly to the pessary, contractions went from 0 to 100 very quickly, waters broke and the pain was suddenly so horrendous I didn’t have time to mentally get my head around it. I didn’t have that natural build up of contractions that I had pictured in my head. Baby was delivered vaginally but I had to get the epidural for the pain which I originally didn’t want to do. I guess the induction did exactly what it was meant to but it was very full on.

I was in agony within 2 hours!
