Help?

I think I may have worked myself into preterm labor?.... I worked a 9 hour shift yesterday, and around 7 or 8 hours, I started feeling sharp, painful pinch in the middle of my lower back, I figured it was because I needed to sit down, it only happened once more while on my shift, I got off waddling because my legs and lower back hurt, got home, had dinner, and laid down for bed, back pain started again as was trying to get comfortable but eventually fell asleep because of how tired I was, woke up at 1:30am with a really bad stomachache, struggled to get up because of severe back pain, went to the bathroom and felt like I was gonna die, I was in so much pain, by whole back felt like it was on fire, lower back and pelvis were like a 7 out of 10 on pain level, my stomach cramping really bad. Eventually, I waddled back to bed, currently crying, in so much pain I'm shaking and feel like I'm going to throw up sharp, painful pinches in my lower back is back, the pain starts in my lower back, goes through my pelvis, and my lower abdomen feels like it's on burning. I was already planning to call to talk to someone tomorrow because I was concerned about the back pain issues, I have an 8hr shift tomorrow so I just wanted to make sure I was clear to go, but now I'm not so sure and I'm torn between calling my hospitals after hours hotline to ask about what I should do or wait until later into the morning to go in to the hospital, what should I do? Is this preterm labor? Or have I just worked my body into distress?

I'm gonna be 27 weeks Sunday btw

Please ask for advice over the hospitals hotline/triage line not on here.

You have got to call and talk to a ob nurse and ask them what they think you should do! I personally believe that you should go in and get checked it is ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry! Edit: you should call them tonight and not wait until the morning!

Don’t ask on here. Someone may give you information which is wrong and you go with it. Ring your midwife ( if you guys have one in America) or hospital and get checked out. Don’t wait untill tomorrow. Always better to get checked - even if it’s nothing.

You need to go to get check. That amount of pain isn’t normal! Don’t wait if it is preterm labour there medication they gab give you to try to stop things and help with baby’s development

Girl I’m not reading all that please call your doctor we are not medical professionals 😅

You're in to much pain I really hope you went to the hospital ❤️

@Hannah yeah, my brother got mad at me and told me that if I'm not careful I can put myself on bed rest so no more 9 or 8 hour shifts, the most I can do is 6hrs

@Cypress I was the same way. I was a hairstylist and worked 12 hour shift on my feet all day. I had to start my leave early because I overdid it and almost passed out at work :/

@Cypress good to hear you’re okay. But the point is you shouldn’t come on here to ask advice on whether you should go to hospital or call their triage line, if you ever have concerns about yourself or baby in the pregnancy just make the phone call/go to hospital. It’s not worth waiting around.

@Lottie I'm not going to the retarded hospital for thousands of dollars just for them to tell me I'm fine, I had stomach issues for 5 months that kept me from eating or doing basic things and I spent $350 to $600 a visit and spent hours and went through so many tests and scans just for them to tell me they couldn't find anything only for a diabetic specialist be the one to tell me it was probably a medication that I was taking and explained the side effects to me when doctors couldn't even figure that out, ever since then I decided not to waste my time and money going to the hospital unless I can get the opinion of someone who went through something similar so they have a possible answer

@Cypress im glad you and baby are ok! Definitely speak to your manager about reducing your hours per shift! You need to take it easy now your going into your 3rd trimester

@Cypress oh girl…… we don’t use the R word 😬

@Hannah I've had back problems my whole pregnancy, they've suggested stretching but so far it's only a short term solution and sometimes I can't even do them because I'm already in too much pain

@Hannah well, some doctors are pretty stupid, I hated going to the hospital for certain reasons just for them to come up with something not even related to my issue so I'd spend hundreds of dollars just for them to tell me I'm "fat" or something along those lines even tho I've been this size since I was 16 I've never gotten bigger or smaller and I could do normal things like regular people and I never had the issue before years prior just for a nurse or different doctor to come up with the the real reason for the issue that 5 doctors before then couldn't, my brother is in medical school tho so sometimes I just ask him for answers now if I don't wanna spend hundreds of dollars going to the hospital just for them to tell me I'm fine and send me home

@Cypress okay.

@Cypress ok well using the R word as a synonym for the word stupid is incredibly offensive and wrong I don’t care how many run on sentences you comment. You’re a grown woman, do better. I don’t care that you called the doctors stupid, I care that you used an incredibly offensive word to do so.

@Cypress as a midwife i think you’re massively playing with fire if you don’t go and get checked. the amount of pain you’ve described does not come from being overworked and while it may not be preterm labour it sounds incredibly like a really nasty UTI that can lead to preterm labour. A week away from 3rd trimester is still a fair way from term! Ignoring symptoms is incredibly silly but then going to the internet to ask mainly completely untrained people for advice that you then go and ignore is even more so! I know colleagues and patients who work 13 hour shifts and have never had symptoms like this as a result.

@Ceri-Ann but I have not been diagnosed with a UTI because I literally did lab work 2 days ago, and my OB has not informed me of such, can you explain why that is?

@Hannah that's fine, we are allowed to have our own opinions and we also have the right to ignore others opinions, you have the right to disagree with what I say and I have the right to agree or disagree with what you say, but if you do not like what I say you can also ignore it because that's an option too instead of explaining why you don't like something to someone who might not care about what you have to say

Mmmm it’s not an opinion that the R word is offensive. It’s a fact. But okie dokie 👍🏻

@Hannah everyone I know uses it, coworkers, friends, family, even my partner, Some fact it is 😂

@Cypress that’s not a flex babe 🤣 and also doesn’t make it ok 🥰 hope this helps

@Cypress because it takes 3-5 days to process results for a uti and just because you didn’t have it 2 days ago doesn’t mean you don’t today. Just like any infection! if it’s not a uti there needs to be investigations as to what’s causing the pain. If you’re not bothered about what’s going on and what to play it down to exhaustion that’s your choice but stop turning to the internet for ridiculous posts!

@Hannah I never said it was a flex? Are you offended because your retarded or something? I've never seen someone get so upset over a word, like, sorry if it offends you because it applies to you, but if it doesn't apply to you, why does it offend you?

@Ceri-Ann ok, right now it's been 3 days since I did labs, but also, I've been doing labs every check up because I have gestational diabetes and my doctors want to make sure nothing is changing for the worst so I pee in a cup and get my blood drawn at every check up and I have not been diagnosed with a UTI or a yeast infection so far, and on top of that, I've had severe back problems my whole pregnancy so far and the only thing they can tell me is to the do stretches but it also doesn't help long term, I have to do stretches more than 3 times a day every time I'm gonna stand on my feet for 4 hours or more or I'll be in crippling pain when trying to relax, I've already talked about it with my doctors and all of them told me to take Tylenol and do stretches which I have been and this is the 2nd time in my pregnancy that back pain has taken me out to the point to where I can't even lay or sit down comfortably let alone stand or walk and last time they also couldn't figure out what was causing my pain

@Ceri-Ann I also thought this was a place you can share your experiences and also learn others experiences so why is my experience being treated like I'm going to die when I've read similar posts that have been nothing but encouragement and advice?

@Cypress they have been abit rude towards your post. There’s nothing wrong with posting for advice of course. But obviously if you are worried just make sure you go to the doctors as well. More so for your babies sake ( which obviously you’ve done already so it’s fine) But you haven’t done anything wrong by posting on here for advice.

@Lucy it was my mistake for making it seem like I was asking a question, I realized that I probably should've mentioned that the reason I wasn't too concerned about going into the hospital was because my doctors weren't concerned last time something like this happened, I was in this situation at 16 weeks, minus the stomachache, but talking to my RN and my brother who is going into the medical field have both reassured me that going to the hospital is my choice if I want to, but that since last time everything looked good with my baby and pregnancy that I was probably having growing pains that effect the back injury I sustained when I was 9 which is why my back is always is pain, I've had back issues before pregnancy and they only seemed to get worse while pregnant but the doctors have not seen anything to be concerned about so far, I just wanted to see if anyone was going through or went through what I am I supposed and it's my bad for not explaining that I guess
