Centiles

Had my 20 w scan yesterday and I read my notes from it after. Sonographer said all the measurements were fine but it said 22nd centile on the notes. Don’t quite understand what this means? Is baby slightly on the small side? What centile are we aiming for?

It just means they’re on the 22nd percentile for the baby’s gestation, so almost 1 in 4 is smaller than your baby and 3 in 4 are bigger. As long as they aren’t below the 10th percentile then they don’t have any concerns for baby’s weight x

Ah ok that makes sense. I have a thyroid issue and they warned it could mean baby is a little on the smaller side so this probably represents that

@Rachel 22nd percentile is nothing to worry about, they’ll do a growth scan if baby either goes up or down the scale based on midwife measurements of your bump, or they may monitor you more because of your thyroid x

Just wondering are you using My Pregnancy Notes? The Sonographer no ever told us our percentile

I’m in Suffolk and use the Patient Portal that the Hospital provides. They have a note in the documents section. It’s clearly for other clinicians rather than me, but it’s available for me to read or download.

@Sarah pregnancy notes is rubbish, you're supposed to be able to download the notes from the fetal assessment section, I've reported it as not working, the "view attachment" bit looks like a link but isn't clickable

@Christie and the worst part is my Midwife never really answers my calls or voicemails so it is weeks before I can have any questions answered

@Sarah I don't even have a number for mine! 🫣

Yeah it is just where they are against other babies. Some people are just smaller than others, and things like genetics take over now, nothing to be concerned about unless they are concerned about IUGR

My baby was on the 20th centile , dose that mean she's small? I didn't understand but now reading this in thinking she's small?

@Heather my son was always around the 15th to 20th centile throughout my pregnancy and he was born at 6lb 10.5oz at 38+4. If he went to 40 weeks he would’ve probably been another pound on top, which is around average. Don’t let it scare you, they only get concerned under 10th centile x

Thank you x
