Childcare whilst in labour

So I live at least hour if not longer from any friends or family, excluding my sister in law whose about 40mins away. I have a 2.5yro and my mum, in trying to be helpful, has made me panic about needing a better plan for childcare whilst in labour. Our original plan was to call my sister in law the instant something happens, but if shes at work it might take a bit of time to get to us, and she also has a pretty healthy social life! Our back up was to take our son with us to the hospital and my husband will just have to wait outside until my sister in law or a grandparent gets there. We barely know our neighbours. I think I'm just naively hoping I go into labour on a nursery day 🙈 Any ideas?! 🤣🤣

I’m naively hoping ill go into labour in the 3 weeks my mum is at my house visiting from her own country. She’s coming a little more than a week before my due date…. And well. I have 0 idea what happens if I go into labour before… no one is here that I’d leave my child with. I guess husband would need to stay home or take her to the hospital while I labour on my own? 😭😭😭😩😭😭😭

Could a homebirth be a possibility for you? :)

I have no ideas but just sharing some solidarity. The nearest family member we have is an hour away and will be going on holiday on my due date 🙈

@Emma Its crossed my mind but I think I need the comfort of being in hospital to keep me calm in labour! X

I am in the same situation but to add to it, I had a precipitous labour first time around (1hr 45mins) which ended in c-section and I’ve been told to prepare for the possibility of a faster labour this time 😳. I don’t really want a home birth because it would be a vbac. We’ve had no choice but to ask our neighbours if they’d be prepared to sit with our toddler until someone else can get here, even if it’s the middle of the night. They’ve all been really nice about it and said they would. We know our neighbours to say hello to but my daughter doesn’t spend time with them so it’s not ideal but we feel like we’ve got no other choice at the moment!

How quick was your first labour? It will give some indication of how much time you’ll have this time around. I really feel for you though- my mum is 5 hours away and MIL is 3.5 hours away. I had an emergency section first time so going for a planned section this time. It’s the only way we can make it work because it’s planned. X

That is exactly what I was hoping for! I am having a C-section on a nursery day at 7.30 am but my partner won’t be able to be there as the nursery only opens at 7.30am and the hospital is 30 minutes away. Hope the midwifes will be supportive on the day! 🤞

My sister in law is on call and lives 45mins on a good day never mind if shes at work etc, so the ola. Is as soo as I starry signs of labour get in contact with her to get here asap to stay with my nearly 2 year old. Worst case scenario a mum friend will watch her until she gets here or a nanny friend of mine if she’s not working can step in but these are all ifs. I’m hoping that I go into labour at night so that she can whizz here, we go to hospital, push out s baby and come back again 😂
