Competitive/pricey nursery schools

We are looking at nursery schools for our daughter. Some of them require observed playgroups and pretty in-depth applications, and they do turn kids down. The ones we are looking at are in the $15k to $25k range for half day nursery school for a regular school year. Can anyone whose child is in a program like this provide feedback on whether this has been a worthwhile investment for you? We are looking at Montessori and conventional programs. I will say the idea of rejecting a 3 year old’s application is pretty shocking to me but I guess they can’t accept everyone.

I don’t see it as an investment… at least here in NYC the cheapest daycare runs about $200USD a week which is about 9.6K, an OK/decent one would be about 400-500 a week or 19-24K. And that’s still on the lower end of it. The good/fancy ones, not even competitive start at 3,000 a month or 36K. But typically most are around 5K a month. And some of those prices are half days lol. The most I did was 19K and we are by no means well off… So I would say if you can afford it, do it. We definitely see a difference in the facilities and quality from that one to where we are now. We only left because with that particular one we felt they didn’t do things to insure our daughters safety and they were pitting us against each other (my daughter’s father and I)

Also because sadly the more money you are paying, most likely the less issues you will have when it comes to how your child is handled. I’d pay for peace of mind alone.
