Weaning - Annoyed with MiL

My LO is almost 6 months and from 5.5 months I've been giving him first tastes of veggies. My MiL looks after him 2 days a week whilst I'm at work, she's asked about food but I said not to worry about giving him anything yet. He's not properly eating and I want to be there when he tries new food. When my husband picked him up the other day she said he's been eating some rusks she bought, and loves them. I'm so annoyed as they are full of sugar! I know she didn't mean it maliciously and rusks used to be super common to give babies, but I had said not to give him anything. I'm very grateful for her help with him and don't want to upset her, but I also don't want him eating things I haven't approved 😞.

I would maybe approach it from an allergen point of view? Less likely to offend her. Just say until you’ve worked through the allergens carefully and one by one at home he won’t be eating anywhere but with you x

Could you try maybe making up wee pots of the veggies you’ve been giving him and say you’d rather he didn’t eat but if she is going to feed him then give him this only and nothing else as per dr/health visitor/nhs advice? I know you’d rather be there when he eats but sounds like she’ll just give him something anyway and it’s better she doesn’t hide it from you and you know what he’s getting is something you’ve made that you know the ingredients of if he is going to have something while she looks after him

I would ask my husband to tell her please to not give him those, and just say they don’t recommend them anymore. Say you’ll send him with food once he’s eating more x

I'd be furious. This is my worst fear starting him on solids, and one of the reasons why we aren't in a rush to wean. I feel like grandparents/ family don't have boundaries, and although they mean no harm, they dont take requests seriously. They genuinely believe it does no harm. I'm not rushing the weaning process, but the constant nagging off everyone to get him to eat and try all these different types of foods is really annoying. He's exclusively breastfed. We are enjoying our journey and will introduce food in our own time. 😅😭🫠 I totally feel ya mumma x
