Changing Table - Guilt

I guess perhaps looking for someone to be straight with me here as my Mum is telling me it’s fine/ not to worry and maybe just trying to reassure me. Changed my 6 week old for the first time in a public toilet today. Without thinking, I changed him without putting the changing bag change mat under him for more cushioning. The changing table was just hard plastic, no cushioning. I realised that I had done something wrong as baby’s cry was different on the table. He had already been crying beforehand but it sounded different on the table. Bearing in mind I was lifting his legs to change the nappy etc, perhaps putting more pressure on the back of his head. I’m so annoyed at myself for not thinking about the changing mat in my bag. Please, can someone just be straight with me and advise if they think I may have really hurt my baby, or caused damage? He has been fine since at least, but I cannot shake off this feeling of guilt and how stupid I was. Thanks for any input here.

You’ve done nothing wrong it was probably more cold than your little one was used to x

As Olivia said, he was probably cold my lovely. Please don't give yourself a hard time, I've forgotten my changing mat on one of those changing tables many times xx

You’re not the only one to have done it and you definitely won’t be the last either, but the above comment Olivia is right he was probably just cold, if he seems fine now try and not stress about it to much as you’ll make yourself Ill xx

Ohh goodness do not feel guilty at all! The amount of times i change without in a rush or if shes exploded i cant even count. Baby is on their for such a short period of time remember x

I never carried a change mat round with my first, I'd always lay him straight on the table to change him. Never caused the slightest issue. Don't beat yourself up, you've done nothing wrong at all.

Most likely the cold! My lo hates being changed most of the time. I try to lay stuff down at home but also don’t want to put it past waist level in case of spontaneous pee or poo so there’s still an element of cold plastic

Thanks so much everyone, really helps hearing your experiences

Don’t feel bad lovely, likely just cold. Bathrooms are never the warmest either which probably doesn’t help. My LG is nearly 2 and still doesn’t like them. She was the same when she was a baby. X
