Whole milk

When is everyone changing to whole milk? Are you starting a few weeks before or when baby actually turns 1?

I'm going to start trying when they're about 11.5 months, just so there is plenty of time to transition before they start nursery x

@Mou I was thinking the same, she starts nursery on the 10th June and it'll be easier if she's on whole milk by then x

I put whole milk in her breakfast or put it in her food where suitable, I think in terms of bottles I’m still on her usual formula once she turns 1 I will do it slowly so like 4oz formula and 2oz whole milk

I transitioned my first from boob to whole milk at 11.5 months (advised by HV at the time) and she was fine x

My little one is 11 months tomorrow and I got a tin and half left. My health visitor told me as soon as that's finished swap her to cows milk x

So when my LO turned 10 months I did 5oz formula, 1 oz cows milk, then 2 weeks later changed to 4oz formula 2oz cows milk, end of this week it’ll be 3oz formula 3oz cows milk, 2 weeks later 2oz formula 4oz cows milk etc etc. then by the time he’s 12 months which is in 5 weeks he will basically be completely on cows milk. He’s not had any reaction to cows milk as in upset stomach or sickness. It works for us. Atm he’s on 4-6 bottles in 24 hours xx

I’ve started giving whole milk for the lunch time bottle as he was looking to drop it anyway. Keeping morning and tea as formula for now but won’t be buying anymore formula after I’ve used this last tin I have! Luckily mine guzzled his cow milk bottle yesterday with no complaints 😂😂

@Mou any tips for going from boob to bottle?! I don’t want to start pumping to mix it with “proper” milk…. But don’t want to give him too much either 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Hannah ive been doing the same, started it last week and shes 11 months today, she only has 2 6oz bottles a day morning and bed time and shes been fine with it 😊

@Mou how did you do it? I’m breastfeeding too and not sure how to transition her over. She does have 1 formula bottle every day doe

So luckily she accepted bottles already from having ebm in them so I just started replacing one feed a day, then two, the three until she was on 4 bottles a day. I gave her about 4/5 oz each one. Then gradually she drank less and less of the middle 2 until that was one feed and then she dropped the morning one too. I switched middle feeds first, then morning one then nighttime one. Also I just gave her straight cold milk, and yes she was constipated a little for a few weeks but we just upped her prunes, fibre and water and she got past that once she adjusted x

Also a side note my current breastfed twin is a little more of a challenge. She doesn't take a bottle at all, not even boobmilk! So I am going to just keep giving her cow milk in any kind of cup I can not long after a boobfeed so she is in a good mood and not pressured. Whichever one she gets on with best I will keep persisting with it and just upping the amounts and hope I can offer that in lieu of a boob at some point.

My eldest transitioned at 11.5 months, with baby girl I think I’ll wait until her formula runs out - if it’s a week or so before I’ll wean early but if I have a tin open I’ll go until her birthday

The WHO and the NHS suggests that you continue to breastfeed to 2 years old no need to switch to cows milk

@Rach some of us are done BF by one, sad to say cos I thought I’d last longer but dietary restrictions mean I’m stopping at one. Still feel amazing for EBF for a whole year 💪🏼

@Fay that’s amazing to make it to a year! Should be so proud

@Fay I've been pregnant or breastfeeding since May 22, I am done. Absolutely done. I need my hormones to start even remotely getting back to something else than this.

You have done well to breastfeed to 1, breastfeeding can b hard and you should b proud of sticking at it till one
