When did your babies start sleeping longer stretches through the night without any sleep training?

Hello mamas, My babe is 6 weeks old and the longest stretch he has is around 3-4 hours of sleep after his bedtime routine. After that he doesn’t do well with sleeping and will wake up every 2 hours sometimes even less for feeding or he’s gassy so he’s uncomfortable. Plus first stretch is in the bassinet but the next ones after this he will always want to co-sleep. When did your babies start sleeping for longer stretches (not through the night cuz that unrealistic for babies at this age) P.s. I exclusively breastfeed.

My boy started to do 7-4 at that age, have a bottle and then back down until 7, then 8 weeks was sleeping through. We just got lucky but also had a bedtime routine from 2 weeks which I think did help too. But 3-4 hour stretches at that age is good tbh x

Expecting any more than what you have at the moment is madness. This is really good and normal for your exclusively breastfed baby! Their tummies need filling every few hours so totally expected to wake like he does.

Mine has just...in the last week...started sleeping all the way through without waking up. She turned 3 YEARS last Monday...she too was EBF for two years. I am yet to meet another mother who has their EBF'd baby sleeping through. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But three years will flash before your eyes. It may not feel like it right now, but it will. Keep going with the breastfeeding :) it's all worth it in the end xx

That's very good for that age. Added context that I have an 18 month old who has never slept for more than 2 hours in one go. He was breastfed until 5 months and then formula until 11 months. They'll sleep longer when they're ready!

12 months and wakes up once.. Pretty normal until 3-4 yrs old Babies that sleep through when they are an exception to the rule...

At 3 months my baby did a few weeks of 8-10 hours through the night. The 4 month sleep regression hit and he’s woke and fed hourly for the last 2.5 months. It’s really hard but it’s not forever. For your babies age I’d say their sleep is really really good! Sleep isn’t linear and especially with breastfed babies they like the comfort and closeness with us as well as needing to fill their tummies more often than formula fed babies. Keep at it x

Mine slept through the night (bed at 7, one feed at 11 and then waking at 8) at 18 months. So it is a range of normal.

How did y’all combat the extended sleeplessness? All I need is like a 5 hour continuous stretch of sleep lol. Hopefully babe can extend the sleep soonish?

my boy is 8 weeks and sleeps 2-3hr at the start of bedtime and then refuses to be put back down after that x

@Rachel thanks for the realistic expectation setting! I was a person who slept like a corpse for like 10 hours each night and I barely get 4 hours now. So yeah it’s so hard to contemplate that it will get better.

@Sayali nap when the baby naps or have someone watch him when I can so I can catch up on sleep but honestly your body gets used to it. Before my baby I slept a lotttttt and didn’t do well on no sleep, now I can somehow function on very little 😅 albeit badly x

The problem is he it at a stage where he only contact naps so dunno how can nap with him napping on me. 🫣

@Sayali this too happened with mine until she was 3...however, we chose not to use a cry it out method or sleep train as I knew it wouldn't last forever. So it's entirely up to you. I'd say at this age though the cry it out wouldn't be fair IMO because they feed on demand and you wouldn't want baby to be hungry and cry themselves to sleep x

Mine started around 10 or 11 weeks. He'll sleep for an 8 hour stretch before needing a bottle. Occasionally I still get a 4 to 6 hr stretch but mostly 8. Bracing myself for the 4 month sleep regression though.

By baby slept through at 8 weeks. From newborn to 8 weeks he was fed at 10.30pm…. Woke at 3am for a feed then sleepy until 7ish xx

To the mamas who are getting really good stretches are you doing anything specific for those? Also are y’all breastfeeding or bottle or formula? @Amelia @Jade @Raechell Mae

I bottle fed, followed same routine every night which was have baby sleep downstairs until we went up to bed at 10.30, fed and put baby in sleep sack and in their next to me crib. We did lots of outside walks for fresh air and day light xx

Mine started sleeping 5-6hrs, wake up for a bottle then sleep 4hrs at around 13 months. He's 19 months and just started sleeping 9pm-5am, bottle 530-8 am. I breastfed until 11 months

14 weeks , then we got to 6 months and went backwards 😂😂🫣🫣

@Sayali my baby gets bottle fed breastmilk and formula since I'm an under supplier. So I didn't actively try to make him sleep long stretches but here are the things that have worked for us 1. For one week, I tracked the best time to put my baby down to sleep based on his cues. Basically, any time after 6 I would put him in his sleep sack, turn on the sound machine and let him sleep on his bassinet to see which sleep time will stick. I learned it's best to put him down any time between 8 to 9:30 and he typically will be awake for 2 hrs before so it depends on what time he wakes up from his last nap. 2. I track his bottles daily and make sure he gets at least 24oz before going to bed to make sure he got the calories he needed throughout the day. 3. He rouses a little at night and I find that if I pop the pacifier back in he just falls asleep again immediately without needing to be rocked or fed. If he's really hungry, my baby tends to spit the pacifier out and doesn't go back to sleep.
