Try to check for tongue tie and lip tie. I didn’t have those issues but it took me about a month of latching to get it right for my son and I. Also talk about options with your doctor in terms of supplementing if they are concerned about his weight. And don’t feel bad about pumping not working. Not one single pump worked for me and I had no supply issues!

You’re not doing anything wrong. I’ve been in the same situation. My supply just isn’t enough for my baby. So having to give her top up formula after every feed. Try power pumping to increase your supply. Just know that when you pump it’s not a true reflection on what baby gets as they can stimulate the breast better than a pump. Check his latch is good, tongue tie?

You can breast feed your baby. You are right now. You'll have to wake them to feed every 3 hours as this young sometimes they don't cry for food yet. Haaka is a bit passive you'd need an electric pump to see more than just what drips easily. Best to see a consultant about tongue tie or other issues that could be and about increasing your confidence about it

Youve not done anything wrong. My boy was born at 7lb 7 then dropped to 6lb 6, we did add in some formula supplements for a while but cut them right back, would have been able to stop but i always wanted him to have 1 bottke of formula a day as i have very little dairy in my diet as im lactose intolerant xxx

@Rema it feels like hes latching fine thats the thing but when I try to pump its only few droplets , am so stressed now into thinking a done produce enough mill

@Abbey how do I check the latch , I am sure he is latching fine but can be wrong

Ask your health visitor or midwife to check his latch. But if it feels fine then it probably is hun

@Wiktoria yeah I had a similar concern. When I pump I would get next to nothing and I would worry about his weight. Breastfeeding is really hard. I did not want to supplement at all but I didn’t have a choice. With time and ALOT of food and water my supply boosted up. Hope it gets easier for you.

@Rema did your supply not dropped when you introduced formula, I feel like failing that I can’t keep up on top of the feeds 😢

What did the doctor say about babys weight? If he's not crying may be okay, I know u can also count the number of wet diapers to know if they r getting enough, I can't pump well either nothing ever empties my breasts other than baby, make sure u r hydrated and eating well

Join the Facebook group Breastfeeding and lactation support UK, they can assist you with checking your latch via direct message and can help you to troubleshoot the issues you’re having. You absolutely can breastfeed your baby, you’re doing it! It’s really hard at the start and a learning curve for you and baby but I promise you it gets so much easier x

Definitely go see a lactation consultant and monitor baby's weight. It's normal for babies to lose weight after birth, some more than others, he should start gaining around now or soon, but your best bet is working with a lactation consultant and checking for ties, monitoring their weight

I also had this, baby went from 8lb to 7lb in only about four days. My milk supply did not come in till the roundabout day 7 to 10 due to a shallow latch. I did not know her latch was shallow all I knew that it would occasionally really hurt. I found as soon as I got her latch good my milk came in. I joined a local breastfeeding group

@Wiktoria no not at all. I think him having a bottle every now and then gave me time to catch up physically and recover after birth. After he gained a little weight I started dropping bottles. You’re not failing ❤️

It is normal for babies to drop and wait during the first week or two. I suggest you get an electric pump so that you can actually see how much you are producing, I don’t think the hakaa is enough to drain your supply. You got this mama 🫶🏼🫶🏼

It’s very normal for babies to have dropped weight after birth! My baby dropped almost a pound and it took about 3 weeks for him to get back over his initial birth weight. Feedings we’re also soooo long and it was draining me mentally but they’re learning how to feed just like we’re learning all of this. It took a month-6weeks for him to get faster at feeding. If you’re nervous about it you can see a lactation consultant (sometimes covered by insurance) and you can see exactly how much baby is getting from you. Or you can see your pet and see if it’s enough of a weight difference that they want you to supplement with some formula
