Away from baby

I’m going to a concert today and going to be away from baby for about 12 hours. I’m going to take my pump with me. Do you think I’ll be ok just pumping once half way through the day, I’m not going to be able to take my pump into the arena that’s all. Don’t want it to affect my supply. TIA x

Where's the concert? I recently went to a gig and took my pump with me. I pumped more than I usually get because of all the oxytocin! Have you asked if you can take it in?

The AO arena in Manchester. I haven’t asked but I thought it would probably be too late to organise it now as didn’t even think 🤦🏽‍♀️ xx

It’s absolutely fine to have the occasional day off! You might start to feel uncomfortably full, but you can hand express a bit in the toilet if you do, and take extra breast pads cause you might leak. Your pump when you get home will probably be massive!

@Becky I went to the O2 in London and didn't have any issues taking my pump in. You legally can pump, they cannot discriminate against you as breastfeeding is a protected characteristic under the equality act! How far PP are you? If your above 6-8w, a day off should be fine, but you'll probably be uncomfortable, if it's less than 6-8w it may impact supply.. Hand express if you can, and have fun! X

I’m 4 months pp so should be fine then :) ooh yes hand expressing is a good idea in between if I feel uncomfortable. Thank you :) I can’t see how they’d turn me away but just don’t want to risk it and then take it off me xx

I too went to O2, I emailed to ask and it was fine. My bag went through the scanner and nobody asked any questions. The crowd is too loud and to busy to care, so pump away!

@Becky they legally can't. At worst they'd make you put it in bag check, but I can't see how they can take it off you because you need to pump... I had the same as @Claire - I had milk and my pump and no-one commented x

It was all fine and got it in fine :) thank you for all your replies xx
