Preschool or no preschool?

My daughter is four I feel so torn on sending her to school. I wanted to do it but my husband and inlaws disagree that it is not necessary and also it’s pretty expensive. Not sure what the right thing to do is. I will fight for her to get the best out of life but I also want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

She has the rest of her life to do school.

If you are financially able, preschool is great for academic and social development. However, they will get it in kindergarten too

Preschool is for social learning not academic

Pre-K helps to develop social skills and for kids to get a feel for how it will work being in a structured environment all day with teachers directing them. So if you think your child will be ok going to kindergarten without all that then pre-K isn’t necessary. Personally I think every kid could use pre-K 🤷🏼‍♀️

Preschool my son went at 3 and I loved every minute of the time I get to myself and the days he come home talking about what he did are the best.. projects and holiday handmade presents are the best ❤️

Preschool can be great for social development and getting them ready for ‘big school’. In my opinion, the first 5 years of a child’s life are the most important for their future development and it is obviously a personal preference but I definitely think it is beneficial.

She could use the structure for sure lol I try to teach her but having a one year old and not knowing how to teach makes it very hard to get her to learn sometimes lol

Preschool (almost all) focus on social learning rather than academic learning. How to follow directions, play with other kids, share, take turns, sit and listen or do an activity for 10 mins, recognize emotions (their own and other’s). It helps them practice being away from you for short periods of time as well. I did preschool with my twins in 2019-2020, but the school closed in March 2020, and we didn’t re-enroll because it was the same tuition for remote learning, with no definite date for in-person return.
It definitely helps with social skills.

My kids going to.pre k this year and I can't wait! I don't want him to be socially awkward which is just as important as academics and COVID is not something that is affecting children that young.

Preschool is more of a social learning environment (both making friends and learning to be away from their caregivers). I have a lot of friends who are Kindergarten teachers and they always say that you can tell a huge difference between to kids that had a year or more of preschool and those that have never gone anywhere. They often say that the ones that have never been to school spend a good portion of their school day adjusting to being away from their parents for at least the first half of the year which can cause them to get behind. So if you think your child is okay being away from y’all then this might not be an issue but this seems to be the biggest issue I hear from my kindergarten teacher friends.

A big yes for preschool from me, yes it's expensive but you get most of it back in taxes anyhow. So there's that. Starting them in preschool is just better for their development. My oldest didn't do preschool and she's brilliant but man my other two definitely went and it made/makes such a difference on my mental health. Plus getting to talk to them about how much they lived making new friends and learning is an incredible feeling.

Preschool did wonders for my son! The structure and the social development has resonated continuously since he was 3 years old.
